Spider-Man (2002)

Spider-Man still holds up fairly well twenty years after it was released, thanks to the fantastic performances of the cast and David Koepp's character-driven screenplay (Jurassic Park). The love story that unfolded between Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) and Mary Jane Watson (Jennifer Love Hewitt) was a significant factor in the record-breaking box office success of this trilogy (Kirsten Dunst). You'd be hard-pressed to find a drama that won an Oscar with a love story that was warmer or more approachable. The movie is at its most entertaining when Spider-Man isn't wearing his costume.

Spider-Man 2 (2004)

(Image Credits: cow in the field-wordpress.com)

The majority of successful motion pictures begin with an outstanding screenplay. It may have seemed like an unusual choice at the time for Alvin Sargent, the two-time Academy Award-winning screenwriter of the World War II drama Julia (1977) and Robert Redford's Ordinary People (1980) to pen a Spidey screenplay; however, the result is a focused, self-contained, and downright exhilarating narrative. At its core, Spider-Man 2 is about coming to terms with one's identity and life's difficult decisions.

Don't be fooled by the dex; this situation is quite dramatic. If the picture directed by Raimi in 2002 was the moment when Hollywood understood that this subgenre had the potential to be a cash cow at the box office, then Spider-Man 2 was the moment when we officially had confirmation that a superhero movie could be a work of art.

My pick for the movie night

One of my all-time favourite films is Despicable Me 2. The movie is excellent. It's hilarious and fascinating at the same time. The actors are hilarious in the film. The first time I saw it, I was glued to the screen the entire time. What a fantastic film. The scene in which Mr Gru dresses up like a princess for his daughter's party is my favourite. And the scene where Mr Gru visits the men's wig shop is also my favourite. The scenes in Despicable Me 2 are fantastic, and they really pull you into the action. In the film, the minions provide much-needed comic relief. The scene in which the minions become villainous minions was one of my favourites. Margo, along with her sisters, is a standout performer in the film. The scene where Mr Gru enters the shop and is attacked by the chicken is one of the film's highlights. In my opinion, the movie's funniest character was the chicken. A great movie is Despicable Me 2, which is right up there with the best of them. Yes, please! It's the best movie you've ever seen, and you should definitely check it out.
