Fred Rogers was an American author, educator, songwriter, television host, and Presbyterian minister. His net worth was $ 3 million during his death which happened in2003.

During the last days of his career, Fred earned an annual salary of $139,000 as the Chief Executive of the Family Communication company. The company was the first to produce his first show Mister Rogers' Neighbourhood," which ran from 1968-2001.

The character of Mister Rogers also debuted on Canadian tv as “Misterogers" in 1961. Later Rogers got the rights to the show in 1967.

Rogers returned to Pennsylvania, and he produced Mister Rogers' Neighbourhood in the American version.

The program ran until Rogers decided to retire. It is still one of his most significant shows of all time.

Rogers was also an author and published various books, including The Matter of the Mittens", Everyone is Special", "Dear Mister Rogers" and many more.

Fred Rogers, named Fred McFeely Rogers, was born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, on March 20, 1928. James, his father, was the PresidentPresident of McFeely Brick Company. His mother, Nancy, knitted sweaters for the soldiers and was a hospital volunteer.

His parents adopted a girl named Elaine when Fred was 11. Fred played the piano as a child and was bullied for his weight. Rogers completed his schooling at Latrobe High School. He was the PresidentPresident of the School Council and editor-in-chief of the yearbook.

After graduation, Fred enrolled in Dartmouth College and later moved to Rollins College in Florida after his first year. He graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1951. Again in 1962, he graduated magna cum laude and earned a Bachelor of Divinity from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.

He became a minister for the Pittsburgh Presbytery of the United Presbyterian Church. He was motivated to minister to the children through his tv show.

Career

In the 1950s, Fred took the job as a Floor Director at NBC for shows Your Hit Parade" and "The Kate Smith Hour.

He served as an assistant producer for The Voice of Firestone." 

In 1953 Fred moved to Pittsburgh and worked as a program developer for WQED, a public tv channel.

He produced The Children's Corner", and Josie Carey hosted the show and created puppets. 

In 1961 he hosted Misterogers, a children's show on CBC, which aired 330 episodes.

Fred returned to Pittsburgh inn1967, and his show Mister Rogers' Neighborhood premiered on National Educational Television.

In 1971, Fred formed Family Communications, Inc for the production of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and other adult programs. The production aired the show year 1979. 

In 2001 Roger decided to retire and the final episode aired on August 31, 2001.

In 1978Fred hosted the "Old Friends … New Friends", which he wrote and produced.

He appeared in the children's show Good Night, Little Ones!" in 1987.

In 1994 he was the host and producer of Fred Rogers' Heroes. He also played a role of a Preacher in 1996 CBS, Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman.

Fred also was a well-renowned speaker at more than 150 graduation ceremonies.

Fred Rogers married Joanne Byrd on July 9, 1952. They had two children named John and James. The two were together until Roger's death.

Fred became a vegetarian in the '80s and was an equal owner of his friend's magazineVegetarian Times.

Fred followed the Presbyterian faith, and although he was registered as a Republican, he was very independent in his choices.

Fred enjoyed swimming and playing the piano. He was enthusiastic and made an effort to perform at Pittsburgh Athletic Association daily.

Death

Rogers suffered from a chronic disease and was diagnosed with Stomach cancer in October 2002.

He delayed treatment until his duties as Grand Marshal of the 2003 Rose Parade were fulfilled. He underwent surgery in January and sadly passed away on February 27, 2003.

Fred's funeral was held at Unity Chapel in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, on March 1, 2003. It was a secret service planned for his close ones to grieve privately.

A public memorial was held at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh on May 3, 2003. Two thousand seven hundred mourners attended the service. It was also telecasted in Fred's honor at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh. In 2008 the documentary Won't You Be My Neighbour in his honor became the biggest biography of all time.

In 2019 Tom Hanks played the Role of Fred Rogger in A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood. It earned nominations for Academy Awards, Critics' Choice Movie Awards, and Golden Globe Awards.

In 2003 a Fred Roger Centre was established to carry his work forward and mainly to help children grow as confident humans.

Fred Rogers was nominated for more than 50 Daytime Emmy Awards. He won four of them.

Fred won a lifetime achievement award in 1997.

Fred won three Primetime Emmy nominations and two CINE Golden Eagle Awards, a Peabody Award.

In 2021, he was awarded a Grammy for It's Such A Good Feeling: The Best Of Mister Rogers.

In 1993 and 1997, he was honored with Television Critics Association Awards and Career Achievement.

Fred received a star on the Hollywood Walk of fame in 1998.

Fred was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2002 by George W Bush.

Other awards like Myrtle Wreath Award, Distinguished Communications Recognition Award, Media Arts Award (1982), and Common Wealth Award (2002), 

An Asteroidwas named after him, a steroid 26858 Misterrogers in 2003.

Fred received honorary degrees from various universities, including Yale University, Dartmouth College, and others.
