Pinnacle of fastest cars in the world

Updated on November 03, 2022 14:05 PM by Laura Mendes

Speed is a very addictive drug, and these automobiles have the potential to hook you quickly with their mind-blowing performance. Cars that are merely "quick" do not need to apply here; rather, we are searching for the quickest of the quick that can, have, or now hold records for the highest speed. You might be able to go quicker in a land speed record automobile, but good luck getting the department of motor vehicles to issue you a licence plate for it! These are the world's most rapid rides, from the slowest to the quickest.

ASTON-MARTIN ONE-77

At the Paris Motor Show in 2008, Aston Martin showed off a supercar that made everyone stop and pay attention. Cosworth built and tuned the 7.3-litre V12 engine that was under the body's impossible curves. When the carbon fibre chassis and the suspension made by Multimatic were put together, the One-77 could go 220 mph.

The Aston Martin halo car won several international design awards, including the prestigious Concorso d'Eleganza Design Award. Its performance isn't bad, but what people liked most about it was its design.

PAGANI ZONDA CINQUE

Pagani is a small Italian company that makes supercars. In 1999, when the Zonda C12 came out, it set the world on fire. Even with all the changes, special editions, and series, the Zonda line continued for 18 years until the last model came out in 2017.

The original C12 had 444 horsepower from its Mercedes-Benz AMG-tuned V12, while the Cinque (Italian for "five") had 670 horsepower. This was enough to get the Zonda up to 221 mph, and thanks to some serious aerodynamic engineering, it could produce 1,653 pounds of downforce.

LAMBORGHINI VENENO

When making the Veneno, Lamborghini, which is known for making cars with strange designs, looked at Le Mans prototype race cars for ideas. The car has cutting-edge aerodynamics and suspension engineering, making it feel like a real "race car for the road."

The Veneno is powered by the same 6.5-litre V12 engine that gives the Aventador its 740 horsepower. This is enough power to get the Veneno up to 221 mph, which is pretty fast. The Veneno is one of the world's most expensive and exclusive cars. Its design and features are cutting-edge, costing an eye-popping $4.5 million.

HENNESSEY VENOM GT

Hennessey Performance Engineering took a Lotus Exige and changed it a lot to make the Venom GT. Hennessy makes the chassis longer and wider and puts in a 7.0-litre GM LSX V8 engine with two turbochargers and 6-speed manual transmission from the Ford GT supercar.

This car has a Lotus chassis, a GM engine, and a Ford transmission and was built by Hennessey. It weighs 2,743 pounds and can go as fast as 270 mph. The record was actually set at the Kennedy Space Center's 3.22-mile-long space shuttle landing strip, and the Venom GT is 50 mph faster than the space shuttle's landing speed.

PAGANI HUAYRA

The Huayra was Pagani's next car after the Zonda. It was faster and had better technology than the Zonda. Mercedes-Benz AMG built a special 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 engine that gives the Huayra 720 horsepower and a top speed of 230 mph.

Even though the Huayra is one of the fastest cars in a straight line, it is also one of the best-handling cars in the world. With its lightweight suspension, custom Pirelli tyres, and active aerodynamics that change as the car moves, the Huayra is just as capable of tearing up the race track by generating an insane 1.8G of lateral cornering force.

If the regular Huayra isn't sporty enough for you, Pagani has an even more extreme version called the BC. The Huayra BC, which is named after the late Benny Caiola, is a more powerful, stripped-down, track-focused weapon that can reach 238 mph.

The Huayra, like all Paganis, has a great mix of technology and design. The body and chassis are made of a material called "carbon triax," which is made by weaving carbon fibre and kevlar together to make a material that is both very strong and very light. The Huayra only weighs about 2,685 pounds because it has a titanium exhaust and a very simple interior.

The F1 was not only a great road car but also one of the best race cars ever made. It won the Le Mans 24hr race in 1995 and the BPR sports car series. On March 31, 1998, a five-year-old McLaren F1 drove 240.1 mph at Volkswagen's test track to set the production car speed record.

The 9ff is a small-scale German car company that, like RUF, builds some of the fastest cars on the road by, starting with the Porsche 911. Even though their looks, shapes, and mechanics may be similar to Porsche cars, a 9ff creation is still it's own making.

In 2009, 9ff brought the TR 1000, a twin-turbo monster with 1,000 horsepower, to the ATP testing circuit in Germany. They "lit the candle" and hit 243.4 mph.

To do this, Koenigsegg completely changed how it designs and makes cars, starting from scratch to make a brand-new car. Their hard work resulted in a beast with 806 horsepower that could go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 245 mph.

Dauer Racing took a Porsche 962 and turned it into a street car by adding a passenger seat, leather upholstery, and a DVD player.

So that the 962 could meet the minimum ride-height requirements for public roads, a hydraulic suspension system was also added. Since the road car didn't have to follow racing rules, the engine wasn't limited, so it had 730 horsepower and a top speed of 251.5 mph.

Callaway cars ordered a special low-drag body for the 'Vette, which they called the AeroBody. This made the motor have 898 horsepower. The result was a Corvette that could go 255 miles per hour and still had its original interior, radio, air conditioning, and power sports seats.
