An alleged drive-by shooting has led to the arrest of former Seattle SuperSonics power forward Shawn Kemp. There was an altercation on Wednesday (March 8) among two people in separate vehicles across the street from Tacoma Mall. Although shots were fired, no one was injured, and one car fled. There was also a gun found at the scene.

David Rose from Fox13 Seattle reports the situation was a matter of self-defence. Kemp was arrested four hours later on a felony drive-by shooting charge. Rose wrote on Twitter early Thursday morning (March 9) that sources close to SuperSonics legend Shawn Kemp told him that his car was stolen yesterday, and his iPhone was tracked to Tacoma today. The suspect shot at him as he approached the vehicle. "In self-defence, he fired back."

In 1989, Kemp was drafted 17th overall in the NBA by the New York Knicks at 19, having never played college basketball. Following a stealing accusation, he left the University of Kentucky.

Kemp was a member of the board

It was with the Seattle SuperSonics, nowadays the Oklahoma City Thunder, that he spent the majority of his NBA career. He helped them reach the NBA Finals in 1996. Also named to six NBA All-Star teams, three All-NBA Second teams, and a McDonald's All-American in 1988, Kemp served as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trail Blazers, and Orlando Magic.
