Early life

Greg was born in Buffalo, New York, on January 22, 1988. When Oden was nine, his family moved to Indiana, and he attended the
Sarah Scott Middle School. After that, he moved to Indianapolis with his mother and played basketball for the Lawrence North High School team.

Oden led his school team to three consecutive Indiana Class 4A basketball championships. Greg was named the National Boys Basketball player of the year in 2005-06.
