Music Break Helped Jordin Sparks' Reconnect' With Herself & Find Magic

Sparks has been travelling and working since winning American Idol's sixth season at 17. "I won American Idol, and then I was off to the races, and then I was working, working," she said in an interview. 

As for Jordin, she has yet to release any new solo music between 2015 and 2020. She has dabbled in some new tunes via singles over the last few years and admits the pandemic gave her a chance to fall back in love with music.

Winning Idol is incredible

It was during my break that I reconnected with it. Before, I was singing just because I loved it, and that's all I wanted to do: sing and tell stories through music and touch people. It was incredible to win Idol because it enabled me to do that and release music for people to listen to," he said.

When time passes, and you become busy, it becomes like, okay, this is a great opportunity. There is a lot of work involved, but that's okay. I'm glad to have something I can use as a career and use my passion, which I'm grateful for, but sometimes that takes away from the magic.

Childhood was spent moving around a lot

She admitted that she had never had a home life since she moved around as a child before leaving for Hollywood at 17. As a result of the lockdown, I could sit and think and enjoy time with my family and get back into the routine of a home life again, which was very inspiring and helped me ground myself again."

Music helped me reconnect with myself and my family and with that magical thing that music is. Getting back into the booth and creating just because I wanted to was amazing, not because it was only three days a month I could be in the studio or else I wouldn't get paid for another six months. I am just grateful for that time."
