L.Q. Jones was born in Southeastern Texas in Beaumont. His father, Jessie Paralee, was employed as a railroad worker. When Jones served in the Navy of the United States from 1945 to 1946, he appeared in Lamar Junior College, which is now pronounced Lamar University. After that, he studied law at Austin of the University of Texas from 1950 up to 1951. 

Earlier, he was employed as a stand-up comic and played football and basketball games. Moreover, he got a try to a ranch in Nicaragua before he turned into an actor when linked to his previous college fellow, named Fess Parker. In 1954 at the same time, his roommate Parker was already connected in Hollywood, where he was used to working in television as well as for films. Getting help from him, Jones became a registered Republican and a practicing Methodist. 

Professional Career

In 1955, Jones made his film debut through "Battle Cry", which was credited with his birth name of Justus McQueen. In this film, his character's name was known as "L.Q. Jones", which he liked the most, and later on, he decided to adopt it as a stage name for all his future roles as an artist. He was cast in 1955 as "Smitty Smith" in all three episodes of "Clint Walker's ABC Warner Brothers", the western series "Cheyenne", and the first hour-long western shown on network television. 

From 1960 to 1970, Jones did his superb roles in several films. He turned out to be a member of "Sam Peckinpah's stock company" of actors through which he appeared in the Klondike series from 1960-61, Ride the High Country in 1962, The Wild Bunch in 1969, Major Dundee in 1965, The Pat Garrett & Billy the kid in 1973 and The Ballad of Cable Hogue in 1970. He was frequently cast with his reliable mate named Strother Martin, most seen in "The wild Bunch" as the posse member.    

Jones also worked as a recurring character in the western series Gunsmoke in 1955, Cheyenne in 1955, a ranch hand as Andy Belden in "The Virginian" in 1962, and Laramie and Two Faces West from 1960 to 1961. In the same year in 1962, he saw Ollie Earnshaw as a rich rancher looking for a newlywed in the episode "The Bride".

Personal Life

Between 1950 to 1973, he tied the knot with Neta Lewis, who had shared three kids of Marilyn, Stephen Jones, and Marlin. He used to be a registered Republican and a practicing Methodist. On 9th July 2022, Jones passed away from a natural disaster at his 'Hollywood hills home in Los Angeles when he was 94 years old.
