John Wayne Gacy, the most gruesome American serial killer and sex offender, known as "Killer Clown" because of his clowning about at kid-friendly events, was born on March 17, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. A son of Polish and Danish immigrants, Gacy was brought up by an alcoholic father who beat his children with a razor strap when he thought they misbehaved. In addition, Gacy's mother was physically abused by his father.
