Except for Barack Obama's annual list, Santa Claus' list is usually the only one you'd like to be on at this time of year!

The 61-year-old 44th president has once again published the year-end list of his favourite movies, books, and songs, including blockbuster movies, to his wife Michelle's most recent memoir.

Obama pledged to compile lists of "excellent movies," "great tunes," and "books I enjoyed" in three different posts, and he delivered.

Obama included various well-known songs in his speech, including the Grammy-nominated "The Heart Part 5" by Kendrick Lamar, the smash hit "Break My Soul" by Beyoncé, the fan favourite "Shirt" by SZA, the song "About Damn Time" by Lizzo, and the song "Tit Me Preguntó" by Bad Bunny.

He did, however, make sure to throw in a few curveballs. Now that the world is aware that Obama listened to Steve Lacy's Gemini Rights, the most recent single from Nx Worries with H.E.R., and even a newcomer, Omar Apollo, who reacted on Twitter like anyone would, by slamming the timeline with heart-smile emojis.

Singer-songwriter Ethel Cain, whose song "American Teenager" was chosen by Obama to join the list, was likely the most astonished of the group. Maggie Rogers, Ari Lennox, and others all expressed thanks in response to the news under Obama's Instagram post of the list.

She jokingly wrote on Twitter, "Did not have a previous president include my anti-war, anti-patriotism phoney pop song on his year end list on my 2022 bingo."

Obama chose a few more obscure films on his list besides well-known ones like The Fabelmans, Everything Everywhere All At Once, and Top Gun: Maverick.

Petite Man, Decision to Leave, Aftersun, Descendant, Happening, A Hero, and more movies were also among Obama's choices. The former president even hailed John Patton Ford's 2022 film Emily the Criminal to the delight of Aubrey Plaza.

“No words," Plaza remarked on Instagram while posting a photo of Obama's list.

Obama also showed his reading skills; among the books on his list are Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands by Kate Beaton, The Candy House by Jennifer Egan, Trust by Hernan Diaz, and a few others. He couldn't forget The Light We Carry by Michelle Obama, which is his favourite of the bunch.

The former first lady expressed her gratitude for everyone who took the time to read The Light We Carry on Twitter earlier this week. "Throughout my book tour, I've read a lot of your insightful remarks and grinned at your pictures with loved ones. Continue to tag me with #TheLightWeCarry so I can see more!"

Time will tell what he gushes over in 2023 because the former president often asked his followers if he missed anything or if they had any additional suggestions at the end of each of his tweets.
