Clashing for the Win

WWE stars Ray Mysterio and Santos Escobar clashed for the chance to challenge Austin theory for the US title. The two, both members of the Latino World Order, were to compete in the United States championship invitation on Smackdown, however the much-looked-forward to contest came to an abrupt halt after Rey Mysterio suffered an injury leading to Santos Escobar to be crowned the winner. Escobar became the new number one contender for the United States Championship.

Austin Theory shared his thoughts on the finals of the United States Championship invitation between Escobar and Mysterio. The 25 year old shared his lack of credence at seeing Escobar injure Mysterio. 

He said, “I’m shook. You know, I thought I had this figured out. I went out there, I enjoyed my popcorn, but I didn’t get to finish it. I thought, LWO, not just friends, family. Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar, they are family. But they didn’t take it easy on each other. That’s what I thought, but what happened? Santos Escobar just knocked out Rey Mysterio, my childhood hero. Do you know what that means? Santos Escobar, he’s a bad guy. And I’ll take care of that.”

Rey Mysterio’s Legacy and Career

Óscar Gutiérrez Rubio, widely known as Rey Mysterio is an American professional wrestler signed with WWE where he currently performs on the Smackdown brand. He began his professional career in 1989 at the age of 14. 

He joined WCW (World Championship Wrestling) In 1996 where he popularized lucha libre in the United States. This led to the rise of cruiserweight wrestling divisions, he won the  WCW Cruiserweight Championship five times and the WCW World Tag Team Championship three times.He joined WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) in 2002.The star has held a total of 24 championships for both WCW and WWE. He also won the 2006 Royal rumble. 

Mysterio has been the headliner for the WWE’s hall of fame 2023 class. He was described as an “ultimate underdog to legendary luchador" by WWE in a video package. He was inducted by Konan, his fellow wrestler, mentor and a long time friend. Konan spoke about Luchador influence and how Mysterio made it in pro wrestling. 

In the latest events, the star gave his insights about his son Dominik Mysterio who had won the NXT North American Championship. He stated that he was pleased with his son’s success and that he would love to join him in the ring someday and take the North American Championship from him.

Rey Mysterio Injury

Mysterio suffered an injury after a fight with Escobar, many thought that this part was a storyline, however, the events leading to his injury were not scripted. Jessika Carr, the match referee, had to stop the fight after Mysterio’s head hit the floor. Mysterio was seen to be in deep pain. The medics rushed to examine him and it was later confirmed that he will not be able to continue the fight. The unfortunate turn of events led to Escobar taking the win which guaranteed him a spot in the United States Championship fight on 11th August.

Conclusion

Even after his hall of fame induction, Mysterio has a lot to accomplish. His professional wrestling is one to be admired. And this can be attested by how Austin Theory said that he will take care of him, after he was injured by Escobar.
