Early Life

Irene Sarver and Jack Sarver gave birth to Robert Sarver in Tucson. Sarver is Jewish. His father was a well-known banker, hotel developer, and businessman in Tucson in the early 1970s. He also built and ran Howard Johnson's locations in the Tucson area and was in charge of the American Savings & Loan Association.

In 1979, Jack Sarver passed away from a heart attack. In 1998, the center was renamed the Sarver Heart Center in honor of Robert Sarver's father. He started working for American Savings and Loan, his father's business, when he was 16 years old.

Sarver earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Arizona in 1982 after graduating from Sabino High School in Tucson in 1979. Sarver was made a certified public accountant in 1983.

Robert Sarver established the National Bank of Tucson in 1984, which he later renamed the National Bank Of Arizona. He sold the National Bank of Arizona in 1994. He became chairman of the Phoenix-based Western Alliance Bancorporation in 2003.

Together with Millard Seldin, Robert Sarver co-founded Southwest Value Partners in 1990.

The Emerald Plaza and two other San Diego office buildings were purchased by his jointly owned real estate firm Southwest Value Partners in 2004 for $274.5 million.

Robert Sarver, a lifelong sports fan, started his quest to buy an NBA team by talking to Lute Olson, the basketball coach at the University of Arizona. He paid a record $401 million for the Phoenix Suns in 2004.

For €20 million in January 2016, Sarver acquired the RCD Mallorca football team, playing in the Spanish second tier.

In 1996, Sarver wed Kansas City, Missouri native Penny Sanders. They live in Paradise Valley, Arizona, and have three kids. Penny moved to Phoenix in 1991 after graduating from The University of Oklahoma in 1990, where they met.

Prentice-Hall hired the native of Missouri to sell textbooks to universities.

On the other hand, Robert reportedly holds a bachelor's degree in business from The University of Arizona. In an intimate ceremony in San Diego, they tied the knot on November 2, 1996.

Both the Phoenix Suns and the Phoenix Mercury basketball teams are owned by Robert. He has a one-year suspension and a $10 million fine for racism and sexual harassment.

The NBA's investigation found the charges about Robert's behavior true. Not only did the Suns' owners harass female employees, but they also used inappropriate racial slurs in front of players.
