Early life

James Patrick Caviezel was born on September 26, 1968, in Mount Vernon. His father, James, was a chiropractor, and his mother, Margaret, was a former actress. He was raised in a Catholic home in Conway, Washington, with his brother Timothy, sisters Amy, Ann, and Erin.

Jim, who graduated in 1987, went to Mount Vernon High School, O'Dea High School, and Burien Kennedy High School. He participated in basketball at Bellevue College before suffering a foot injury that stopped his NBA dreams. After that, Caviezel started studying acting at the University of Washington.

Jim made his big screen debut in 1991's "My Own Private Idaho." He then relocated to Los Angeles, and the next year he starred on ABC's "The Wonder Years" and appeared in the film "Diggstown."

First debut

Caviezel declined a scholarship to the elite Juilliard School in New York in 1993, so he could act in the 1994 movie "Wyatt Earp," in which he played Warren Earp, Wyatt's younger brother. Jim appeared as a guest on the CBS crime thriller "Murder, She Wrote" and co-starred in the 1995 CBS Western miniseries "Children of the Dust" starring Sidney Poitier and Farrah Fawcett. 

The next year, he starred in the baseball comedy "Ed" and the action thriller "The Rock," which brought in $335.1 million at the box office, both as an FA-18 pilot. Other movies include

In 2003, Caviezel was chosen to play Jesus Christ in "The Passion of the Christ." While filming the historical drama, he suffered from a cold and pneumonia, dislocated his shoulder, was struck by lightning twice, was whipped, and suffered a 14-inch wound on his back.

Jim is scheduled to reprise his part in the planned sequel, "The Resurrection of the Christ," in which he revealed to the "Catholic Courier" in 2018 that the pain he experienced during filming led to two heart operations.

Jim got married to a teacher Kerri Browitt on July 20, 1996, after three years of blind date and adopted two sons, Bo and David, and adopted a girl Lyn. Bo and Lyn both had brain tumors at the time of their adoptions, and David had cancer. Since appearing in "The Passion of the Christ," he has spoken at various churches and served as a spokesperson for the 2005 Catholic Men's Conference.
