Eddie Murphy, who will get the 2023 Cecil B. DeMille award, and Ryan Murphy, a television producer, will both be recognized at the future gala. Ryan Murphy will receive the show's 4th annual Carol Burnett award for his professional achievements in television.

Comedian Carmichael, 35, will host the awards show when it returns to NBC for the first time since 2021, the HFPA and NBC confirmed in December. He became well-known for his stand-up routines and for creating and starring in the NBC sitcom The Carmichael Show.

Carmichael won an Emmy for best writing for a variety program in September for his HBO comedy show Rothaniel, in which he came out as gay in front of a live audience at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City in February.

Even though the 2022 Golden Globe Awards were not broadcast on television, the 79th annual ceremony took place in January at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
