Beyonce about the World Tour!
Earlier this year, when Beyoncé announced her Renaissance World Tour, she also made plans to contribute $1 million in scholarships to universities along the tour's path.
The singer's BeyGood organization provided $100,000 in scholarship support for ten students at the Detroit School for Digital Technology as part of her Renaissance Scholars program on Tuesday, the day before her concert at Ford Field.
In an interview with the Press, a Beyoncé representative said, "We were thrilled to spend the morning with the Detroit School for Digital Technology and announce that @dsdttech will 100K will be awarded in Renaissance scholarships to help students in need".
When then-U.S. Vice President Joe Biden visited the southwest Detroit school in 2017, it had just recently opened. The school provides courses in business technology, digital marketing, and other subjects.
First Detroit concert!
Beyoncé's Wednesday Ford Field concert is her first in Detroit since last year. The DSDT scholarship isn't Beyoncé's first charitable endeavor in Michigan; in 2016, she gave $82,000 to Flint, Michigan, in support of water restoration efforts, with funds raised by fans during her Formation World Tour.
She also set aside $1,000 apiece for 14 sophomores in high schools in the Detroit region who intend to attend college.
