The police in Milan are adamant that they did nothing wrong when they held soccer star Tiemoue Bakayoko at gunpoint during a recent incident involving him ... while they admit that the incident came about due to a misunderstanding, they say that they were searching for a person who was allegedly involved in a shooting when the incident occurred.

"Referring to a video released today regarding a police check conducted against Milan player Tiemoue Bakayoko, we would like to emphasize that the check took place during a very important operation whose context authorized the adoption of the highest security measures," the police said in a statement to CNN.

It has been reported by the police that the search was conducted in a manner that was consistent with the situation of danger to carry out self-protection purposes.

" The incident was due to a misunderstanding, however, the colleagues behaved properly," said the police.

Approximately two weeks ago, a video of the incident involving 27-year-old Bakayoko, who joined Milan on a two-year loan last summer, went viral on social media after the incident was captured. However, the incident remained under the radar until Monday when the video went viral on social media.

In a statement released on Monday, AC Milan said a search for the man had been conducted after a shooting occurred nearby.

As soon as the police were able to establish Bakayoko's identity and confirm he was not involved in any of the crimes alleged to have been committed, he was immediately released without incident.

As soon as the person had been identified and it had been established that he was not involved in the incident, the service was resumed without any remark from the individual in question."
