His remark

"I'm writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man, I have become," Prince Harry, 37, said in a statement. "I've worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story — the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned — I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think."

When will it release?

Harry's memoir is still provisionally scheduled to hit shelves before the end of this year, despite Penguin Random House's previous announcement that it would be published in late 2022. The book is anticipated to be released in time for the holiday season, however, no precise release date has been given.

It is anticipated that all book and audiobook sales will go to charity. The Duke of Sussex made the announcement while making a surprise appearance at a polo match in Aspen, Colorado in August 2021 that benefited Sentebale. He also pledged to donate $1.5 million from the sales of his upcoming memoir to the organization.

Sentebale

Does Prince Harry need permission from royals to write his memoir?

Even while Prince Harry did not need permission from his grandmother Queen Elizabeth to write his memoir, he did notify them in advance.

According to a representative last year, Harry discreetly discussed the book's publishing with the royal family. The spokesperson stated that Harry wouldn't need to get approval for the project from Buckingham Palace.

Other royals memoirs

The royal family has had several members share their stories before Prince Harry. A King's Story: The Memoirs of the Duke of Windsor, a biography that was ghostwritten by Edward, Duke of Windsor, who was Queen Elizabeth's uncle and had been crowned King Edward VIII before abdicating the throne in 1936 to wed American Wallis Simpson, was published in 1951.

The memoir detailed his upbringing and education as a prince, the courtship with the American divorcee, and his eventual abdication as king.
