The officials suspect that one of the sets of human remains that were found near Lake Mead at the beginning of May match to a murder victim who died in the 1970s or 1980s. The bones were found in two separate sets. The third set of human remains uncovered in the Lake Mead region since early May has been unearthed.

After 30 to 40 years of declining water levels, "if someone were to drop a barrel of paint into the water where they were placed, you would never discover it unless the water level decreased," Lt. Spencer said in an interview in May with the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Lt. Spencer was also included in the conversation: "The barrel is now clearly visible because the water level has fallen. No movement could be seen in the barrel. So the barrel didn't even get washed up."
