When you have had pizza in Italy, you will understand the differences between the evolution of pizza in the U.S. and its evolution in Italy. You'll want to return to that little Italian restaurant where you tried your first authentic pizza — not for gondola rides in Venice or the Colosseum in Rome, but to go back there.

According to History Today, a flatbread with toppings was served by the Roman poet Virgil over 2,000 years ago. As we know it, the dish evolved as a cheap meal sold by street vendors in Naples during the 1700s for poor people in poverty. However, its reputation remained poor for almost a hundred more years.

Nothing is more important than a pizza

When Queen Margherita, a pizza with mozzarella, basil, and tomatoes, became popular in Italy, it wasn't until she was served that particular pizza that it became a national dish. In the U.S., it became synonymous with cities like New York and Chicago after immigrants introduced it to the country.

The Netflix show "Chef's Table" examines its history in its seventh season. 'Chef's Table: Pizza' premiered on Netflix on Wednesday, September 7. The series follows chefs worldwide who redefine gourmet food with creative dishes and tempting desserts.

The season may make you reconsider your belief that pizza is merely something to grab after a night of drinking. There is one chef who takes pizza to a new level in each episode, not just in America but also in Italy, the dish's birthplace.

Unbeatable pizza

In the series trailer, the voiceover says, "After catching up with Chef Bianco, you'll see pizza differently." Bianco is the subject of the first episode of the series.

Founded in the back of a Phoenix grocery store, he creates artisanal pizza that has earned him the James Beard award and numerous publications like Eater, Business Insider, and the New York Times acclaim for making one of the best pizzas ever.

This series promises a variety of chefs with different styles of making pizza. Bianco is just one of them.

There are plenty of pizza experts on Season 7 of "Chef's Table," including Italian chef Gabrielle Bonci, who began his culinary career in Rome and now operates restaurants in the United States.

An episode of "Layover" featured Anthony Bourdain praising Bonci's pizza, saying that it would be amazing if you could have it right now.

You want it so bad. "Chef's Table" episode 3 features Korean immigrant Ann Kim, a James Beard award-winning chef, who owns the Chicago-based Pizzeria Lola. Her restaurant has received global praise. Franco Pepe, whose restaurant Pepe in Grani in Caserta, Italy, is highly regarded.

An all-time favourite

Chef Yoshihiro Imai runs a 14-seat restaurant in Kyoto called Monk, where viewers can experience pizza, you wouldn't necessarily think about. In his book, he describes pizza as Stretching out the dough to form a circle, and standing face-to-face with the fire is like meditating.

A special guest appearance on the last episode is Sarah Minnick, who owns Lovely's Fifty Fifty, a restaurant in Mississippi known for using fresh, seasonal produce. The season 7 series truly give viewers a new appreciation for the universally beloved meal by introducing them to pizzas worldwide.
