Christina Claire Ciminella, better known as Wynonna Judd, was born in Ashland, Kentucky on May 30th, 1964. Naomi Judd, a famous singer, was her mom.

Following the death of her biological father, Charles Jordan, in 2000, Judd was given the surname Ciminella in honor of her mother's second husband, Michael Ciminella. Ashley Judd, an actress herself, is her younger half-sister.

Naomi and Michael relocated their family in 1968, to Los Angeles, but in 1972, they got separated.

Wynonna and Naomi moved to Kentucky in 1976, where Wynonna was influenced by her mother's love of country music and began learning to play guitar after receiving one as a Christmas present.

The Judds

The Judds relocated to Nashville, Tennessee in 1979 to pursue a musical career as a mother-daughter combo. The Judds charted 23 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Singles charts between 1983 and 1991, including 14 number ones.

In addition, they released eight studio albums, one Christmas album, and two collections of their greatest hits. Over the course of their six-year career, The Judds sold over 20 million records worldwide and received over 60 industry honors, including five Grammy nominations, nine County Music Association awards (seven consecutive), and eight Billboard Music Awards. Until Brooks & Dunn surpassed them in the 1990s, they were the best-selling combo in country music.

Following her 1991 farewell tour, a persistent case of hepatitis C caused Naomi to retire early. Wynonna and her mother reunited in 1999 for a K-Mart-sponsored New Year's Eve show.

In 2000, they started on a joint tour, and four new Judds songs were released. They reunited in 2010 for an 18-city tour titled "The Last Encore." As a result of the successful tour, they published a new album titled "I Will Stand by You: Essential Collection" in April 2011, which included two new songs and twelve of their biggest hits.

After their breakup, Wynonna embarked on a solo career, signing with MCA Records under her own name. She debuted her first solo single, "She Is His Only Need," off her self-titled first album at the American Music Awards in January 1992.

Her second album, 1993's platinum-selling "Tell Me Why," produced five Top Ten hits on the country charts: "Only Love," "Is It Over Yet," "Rock Bottom," and "Girls with Guitars," written by Mary Chapin Carpenter, and "Tell Me Why."

Wynonna also won the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year award for that year. Despite Wynonna's absence, her mother Naomi nevertheless managed to attend the ceremony and graciously receive the prize on her behalf.

Wynonna's third album, "Revelations," was certified platinum and featured her fourth and final No. 1 single, "To Be Loved by You." Her final album on the MCA label, "The Other Side," sold fewer copies and was only rated gold, and its lead singles were not as successful as her first three. She eventually decided to sign with Mercury Records instead of staying at MCA.

Wynonna's "New Day Dawning," her fifth solo album, was released in 1999, and her "What the World Needs Now Is Love" album, with its hit tracks, was published in 2003.

Covers of Elvis Presley's "Burning Love" and other songs are featured on Wynonna's 2005 album "Her Story: Scenes from a Lifetime" and 2009's "Sing: Chapter 1," both of which are entirely comprised of cover versions.

In May of 2011, she dropped a new track titled "Love It Out Loud." Her upcoming album's lead track, "Something You Can't Live Without," debuted that March.

On February 12, 2016, Judd dropped a brand new album titled "Wynonna & The Big Noise" from a recording studio. Two singles were released from the album, "Jesus and a Jukebox" and "Things I Lean On."
