Tina Knowles was born in Galveston, Texas, on January 4, 1954. She was raised in Louisiana roots, with six other siblings. During her school days, Tina was interested in singing and joined a group called the Veltones, which The Supremes inspired.

Career

At 19, Tina worked for Shiseido, a Japanese cosmetics company. She worked as a makeup artist at a California-based company.

However, she ended her makeup career as she had to be with her sick parents. 

Tina took a course from the University of Alabama to be a choreographer.

She returned to her makeup career as an esthetician in Birmingham, Alabama. She started her salon in Houston. It was called the "Headliners" and one of the city's best hair salons.

In 2004, Tina started her clothing line, House of Dereon.

In 2010 she founded Miss Tina by Tina Knowles. The second line was sold through a Home shopping channel. Later, it moved to Walmart.
