Early Life
RuPaul Andre Charles, better known as just RuPaul, was born on November 17, 1960, in San Diego, California. There are three of them. After his parents got a divorce in 1967, he and his siblings moved in with their mother, Ernestine "Tony" Charles.
RuPaul moved to Atlanta, Georgia, with his sister Renettea when he was 15 to study performing arts. During the 1980s, he worked as a struggling musician and filmmaker, and he also worked at the Plaza Theatre.
He sang in small venues like the Celebrity Club or as Glen Meadmore's backup singer. In 1989, he got his first break when he was hired as a dancer for the B-52s' music video "Love Shack."
Career
A dance/house album titled "Supermodel of the World" was recorded by RuPaul in 1993 and released by the rap label Tommy Boy. It was anticipated that the track "Supermodel (You Better Work)" and the accompanying music video would become quite famous on MTV channels.
It reached its peak place on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at No. 45. Both "Back to my Roots" and "A Shade Shady (Now Prance)" achieved the top spot on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart after being released as singles and accompanied by music videos.
