Early life

Huckabee was born in 1955 in Hope, Arkansas. At 14, Huckabee landed his first job reading the news and the weather for a nearby radio station. He went to Hope High School, where in the academic year 1972–1973, he served as student council president. Huckabee began serving as a pastor at Garrett Memorial Baptist Church in 1972. He later attended Ouachita Baptist University, earning a bachelor's degree in religion in 1978. Following that, Huckabee was admitted to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Texas but left after only a year to work in Christian radio.

Huckabee joined the team of infamous televangelist James Robison when he was 21 years old. He was a pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church in Pine Bluff from 1980 to 1986 and, from 1986 to 1992, served at Beech Street First Baptist Church in Texarkana.

Political career

In 1992, Huckabee contested for lieutenant governor of Arkansas but lost it. But he triumphed in the subsequent general election, becoming just the second Republican to hold the office of lieutenant governor in Arkansas since Reconstruction. Huckabee won reelection in 1994 and served a full term.

Second term position

Huckabee became governor of Arkansas in 1996 after Jim Guy Tucker, who had been in office at the time, resigned due to convictions for fraud and conspiracy. He was chosen to serve a full four-year term in 1998, and he was returned to office for a second term in 2002 by beating State Treasurer Jimmie Lou Fisher. Huckabee served the third-longest tenure of any governor of Arkansas.

Presidential Campaigns 

In 2007, he ran for the presidential election but gained criticisms over a past comment on turning the U.S. into a Christian theocracy. In January 2008, he won the Iowa Republican caucuses with 34% of the vote. And in March 2008, he withdrew his name after predicting that he would lose Texas.

Huckabee declared his desire to run for the Republican presidential nomination in the 2016 election in May of 2015. However, he decided to put his candidacy on hold following a lackluster performance in the 2016 Iowa caucuses.

Media Career

From 2008 to 2015, he did daily commentary on the radio program "The Huckabee Report" with ABC Radio Networks. In 2008 he started hosting a weekend show on Fox News Channel and launched a daily talk show on Cumulus Media Networks in 2012, which ran for a year.

After receiving a type 2 diabetes diagnosis in 2003, he was advised to reduce weight if he wanted to live for more than ten years. As a result, he began eating better and exercising and eventually shed almost 110 pounds. Huckabee ran in many marathons that, includes the 2005 Marine Corps Marathon, the 2005 Little Rock Marathon in 2006, and the 2006 New York City Marathon, to aid him on his trip.
