Early life

Lemon was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on March 1, 1966. He studied broadcast journalism at Brooklyn College and Louisiana State University before graduating in 1996. He was a correspondent for NBC affiliates in Philadelphia and Chicago and Fox affiliates in St. Louis and Chicago for several years.

Don Lemon worked as a weekend news anchor for WCAU in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and WBRC in Birmingham, Alabama. Don Lemon initially worked as a reporter and local news co-anchor at NBC-owned and -operated station WMAQ-TV (5 in Chicago) in 2003.

He joined CNN in 2006, and since 2015 he also co-hosted CNN's New Year's Eve special from New Orleans with Brooke Baldwin. Because of several errors in reporting throughout the year, David Uberti of the Columbia Journalism Review included him on a list of the worst journalists of 2015.
