In the 1970s television sitcom Sanford and Son, Don Bexley was best known for playing Bubba Bexley. He was a popular actor, singer, entertainer, and comedian known by the family name Donald Thomas Bexley. Hampton, Virginia, in the United States of America, where he was born, is a beautiful and populated city founded on March 10, 1910. A 31-year-old actor, singer, entertainer, and comedian, Donald Thomas Bexley began his career in 1941. In a short time, he became successful in his profession, earning a lot of fame based on his career and influencing people on his own. When he became more important, he completed a full circle in his career. He became famous for his performance in his own country, the United States.

As a child, Bexley lived in either Jamestown, Virginia, or Detroit, Michigan, where his parents were Bible scholars and teachers, and his mother was a classical vocalist. A clown has always been part of my life, and even in my early adolescence, Bexley wrote, "I was born with a flair for the stage."

Choosing a career  

The comedian began his career in upstate New York in the early 1940s, doing comedy with Milton Berle, Danny Kaye, Henny Youngman, and Sammy Davis Jr. He has served as an orchestra director, singer, dancer, and actor. He was one of the first black standup comedians to perform in the Borscht Belt, working with Milton Berle, Danny Kaye, and Henny Youngman. During his travels, he met many black entertainers, including Redd Foxx, who worked in New York City, Philadelphia, and Baltimore. He performed with the dance group Three Shades of Rhythm early in his career and in theatre in New York and Los Angeles.  

Career later in life  

In addition to appearing in Cheers, Hunter, Laverne & Shirley, and Sparkle, he also appeared on Foxx's The Royal Family in 1976. Bexley made a guest appearance in an episode of Foxx's The Royal Family as Al Royal's old friend who attends his funeral in the episode, "New Beginnings". Having written and starred in a sitcom called Cee Cashman and 'Yul Stay Broke, Bexley was in the works for a sitcom titled Cee Cashman and 'Yul Stay Broke' in 1989. Bexley was still writing for stage and television just before he died. Clarence Williams, Sr., a friend of Bexley, noted that the actor had finished several scripts, but he needed to find out whether they would be produced.

In later years  

Support the Artists of America honored Bexley in 1989 with the Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year award. In the 1990s, Bexley continued to be active, always developing new ideas for live performances and shows after moving to Hampton, Virginia. The Aberdeen Athletic Association in June 1996 and the Newmarket Fair Day-Talent Show in September 1996 were among the events where Bexley signed autographs and made personal appearances. In February 1997, Bexley attended the NASA Langley Research Center's Black History Program, which led to his longevity.

He was 87 when he died of a non-communicable disease on April 15, 1997. He leaves behind a large family and extended friends.

The two had been friends for almost 50 years. He was an honorary pallbearer at Foxx's funeral in Las Vegas in October 1991. After injuring his hip in 1996, Bexley moved to Hampton, Virginia, to live with a friend who became his caregiver. Many of Bexley's life was in Los Angeles, but he moved to Hampton after that. Eighty-seven years old, Bexley died of heart and kidney failure at Hampton Sentara Hospital on April 15, 1997. His wife Sally Bexley survives him, along with his children Donna and Stacies Marie, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
