Recently, Netflix revealed the first official trailer for ‘Maestro’ in August, 15. After the film’s trailer release, Bradley Cooper sparked controversy over his prosthetic nose that he wears in the upcoming Netflix biopic about famous composer and conductor, Leonard Bernstein, ‘Maestro’.

Why The Story Filmed

At age 25, Leonard Bernstein made his New York Philharmonic debut at Carnegie Hall. He also composed numerous stage musicals, including ‘On the Town’ and ‘West Side Story’. Because of his popularity, Netflix decided to made a biopic about him titled ‘Maestro’.

The film focuses on Leonard Bernstein, played by Bradley Cooper, and his tumultuous 25-year marriage with actor Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein, played by Carey Mulligan. The other cast of ‘Maestro’ also includes Matt Bomer, Maya Hawke, Sarah Silverman, Josh Hamilton, Scott Ellis, Gideon Glick, Sam Nivola, Alexa Swinton, and Miriam Shor.

Bradley Cooper, who stars as Leonard Bernstein, had previously spoken about his admiration for the composer and how the producer, Steve Spielberg, asked him to potentially star in his version of the film. Surprisingly, he also directed and co-wrote the script with Josh Singer.

Not long after the teaser trailer came out, Bradley Cooper became a trending topic on X, with many fans criticizing the fake nose he wears in the film. Not only that, some fans were also concerned about ‘Jewface’, which negatively characterizes stereotypical or inauthentic portrayals of Jewish people that Leonard Bernstein was. But, until now, Netflix did not respond to that controversy.

Fans Backlash

The comments of fans circulated on X. Some fans were so pitiful about Bradley Cooper’s prosthetic nose, and said that he was putting himself on it to play a Jewish man in ‘Maestro’, the big antisemitic prosthetic nose on Bradley Cooper was definitely not necessary.

Meanwhile, some fans expressed that they love Bradley Cooper and wanted him so much to get an Oscar for this film, but the 'jewface' concerns might be a hindrance. It was caused by wearing a large prosthetic nose that doesn’t actually make him look like Leonard Bernstein.
