Airbnb, a vacation rental company, announces a permanent ban of parties ahead of holidays

The vacation rental company permanently banned "disruptive parties and events," including open-invite gatherings. "Party houses," which people book to enjoy a significant event for just one night, will also be banned. Airbnb said that since they implemented the policy in August 2020, they have seen a 44% year-over-year drop in the rate of party reports. “The temporary ban has proved effective, and we are officially announcing the ban as our policy,” the company wrote in their blog post.

The Airbnb company believes the neighborhoods and communities in which they operate are as crucial as the Hosts and guests who use their service. They know that the overwhelming majority of their Hosts share their homes responsibly, just as the overwhelming majority of guests and treat their listings and neighborhoods as if they were their own. In turn, they focus on trying to deter the rare cases of Hosts who do not operate responsibly or guests who try to throw unauthorized parties. Airbnb banned party houses and rolled out several safety features in 2019 after five people were killed in a shooting at one of its bookings. In 2020, the company insisted on a global ban on all parties as the pandemic hit.

Airbnb said guests who attempt to violate their rules will face consequences varying from account suspension to complete removal from the platform. In fact, in 2021, over 6,600 guests were suspended from Airbnb due to violating our rules. Finally, strong policies must be implemented by solid enforcement. We've introduced several anti-party measures in recent years to enforce our approach and try, to the best of our ability, to stop unauthorized parties and chronic party houses. These include anti-party reservation prevention, unique holiday anti-party measures, a 24-hour safety line, and a partnership with Vrbo to share information on repeat "party house" offenders in the United States. These new and long-term policies are to encourage and support community safety.
