Convenient  

Apple is the most convenient snack when you are hungry and in a hurry. You can just throw an apple in your bag and head out for the day. Moreover, the best part is that it is nutritious too.  It is full of vitamins, fiber, minerals, and other antioxidants. Your body will get all the necessary nutrients with just one apple. It is available all year round in the U.S. But does it really keep the doctor away, as people say? According to 2015 research, apparently, people who have this habit of having an apple every day, needless medications. This means they have lesser diseases.

There are numerous ways to have an apple. You can have it as it is, or have it with almond butter or even include them in your salads. Quercetin is a phytochemical that apples are a rich source of, and it is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which help regulate immune responses. Many major health diseases are caused by chronic inflammation. Quercetin is known for reducing these problems. To be specific, red apples are the ones you need to look out for. They are high in flavonoids. The skin of apples has quercetin so do not peel the skin of the apples if you want its benefits.

If you thought apples are a rich source of quercetin only. You are wrong. They also have other flavonoids that have inflammatory and immune system benefits, like catechin, epicatechin, procyanidin, phloridzin, coumaric acid, chlorogenic acid, and gallic acid. Apples are second in fruits when it comes to having antioxidants. They also have the highest proportion of free phenolics. According to research, these phytochemicals protect the body from oxidative stress. They also are helpful in regulating inflammatory and immune responses. 

Pectin  

Most of your immune system lies in the GI tract, so for your body to be able to fight off viruses and infections, it is important to keep the microbiome healthy. Apples provide pectin, a soluble fiber that helps in supporting gut health. According to a study in 2010, women who consumed more apples, two apples per day, to be more specific, had more good gut bacteria. Having two apples every day can increase the good bacteria in the guts in just two weeks.

Organic apples are better than conventionally grown ones  

In a study that was published in Frontiers of Microbiology in 2019, one apple has almost 100 million bacteria cells. Also, the findings of the study suggest that organic apples are better than conventionally grown ones as they have a more diverse range of bacteria. Vitamin C is one of the best defenses of the body. It fights off colds and other diseases. It also plays many important roles when it comes to boosting the immune system. 

Increase vitamin C consumption   

You can easily increase antioxidants levels in the blood by 30% just by increasing your consumption of vitamin C. This will help strengthen the body’s defense, keeping diseases away. A big apple itself has nearly 10.3 mg of vitamin C, which in turn provides 11.4% of RDA. According to research, the antioxidant activity in around one serving of apples, which is around 100 grams, is around 1,500 milligrams of vitamin C. Also, an apple with its skin has about 115% more vitamin C when compared to a peeled one.
