Try one of these 15 celebrity-inspired topknot hairstyles on New Year's Eve

Our ability to put effort into our hair routines (and social life) vanishes as the winter weather approaches. On windy days, the idea of mastering a multi-step hairdo may seem like a complete waste of effort to others (especially when cozy beanies exist). We won't let our passion for all things hair this season go unnoticed.

We're aiming to achieve the exact opposite by mastering a stylish (and simple) hairdo: the topknot. Topknots aren't a new hairstyle, but after looking at the most inspiring celebrity designs, we're certain this winter that topknots will be the one we experiment with the most.

Yara Shahidi

Vernon François, a famous hairstylist, based in the UK, advises spritzing a leave-in conditioner on dry hair before attempting to replicate Yara Shahidi's twisted topknot. He says to divide the area "from one eyebrow arch to the crown of your head, then from ear to crown, then in-between the two.

"Thus, two portions are produced: From the hairline to the ends, François advises twisting, followed by dabbing with Schwarzkopf Got2B Ultra Glued Styling Gel ($6).To frame the face, he advises sectioning the hair in the front.

Slick the remaining hair up high, braid it, twist it into a bun, then loop the two smaller braids around the bun's base and secure it with a pin. Use Vernon François Styling Cream ($15) to smooth the back and side of the hair and twist the front area to finish the style.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Matt Fugate, a hairstylist in Seattle, asserts that while the knot's location is crucial, its appearance is not."Ensure that the knot is high and lifts the profile, "He claims. That entails putting on a high ponytail and tying a knot at the end of the ponytail.

"After that, wrap the hair around the tight bungee to achieve the sort of carefree, imperfect French girl hairstyle.

 Lea Michele

The distinctive center section gives this appearance a polished but still contemporary feel. Giovanni Vaccaro, the creative director of Glamsquad, advises sectioning out a horseshoe segment at the front of the hair to get Michele's knot."Pull the remaining hair into a tight, sleek high pony," he directs.

From base to ends, twist the ponytail in the same direction, wrapping it in a circle at the elastic's bottom. Then, Vaccaro instructs, go back to the horseshoe piece and make a neat central part. In order to conceal any pins, wrap the ends around the bun last.

Zendaya

Zendaya this casual, intentionally unkempt top knot is stylish enough for day or night. François first applies a heat protectant to the hair before blow-drying Kevin Murphy Bodybuilder Mousse ($44) into the dry hair. He instructs to create a high ponytail, "rake hair upward with your hands and fingers.

Then, twist and pin hair loosely into a bun with U pins, part by section." Utilizing the tip of a carbon tail comb or your fingertips, tease out any remaining hairs from the bun and around the hairline. Apply hair spray to complete the effect. François suggests Paul Mitchell Extra Body Finishing Spray ($21).

Rooney Mara

Hairstylist Kristin Heitkotter provides the following advice for a different topknot à la Mara. Make a high ponytail with your hair at the crown of your head. Leave the ends of your hair hanging out and loop your hair forward as if you were going to make a half bun, she advises.

Add a hair item and secure with bobby pins. Remember to finish the style with a powerful hair spray, such as L'Oréal Elnett Strong Hold ($15).

Sandra Oh

Using a bun shape simplifies this style (i.e., hair donut or sock bun). Make a high ponytail with your hair. Roll your ponytail down after putting it into the bun's middle. Apply elastic to the bun form and brush the hair over it. Leave out one section. The loose section should be wrapped around the form, covered in hair, and pinned.

Thandiwe Newton

Fugate claims that the product preparation and the knot's location are both essential to an undone topknot like Thandiwe Newton's. He continues to get this desired, dry texture without a lot of shine, "you have to load hair with a texturizing product like Kérastase Volume in Power ($29) for product prep.

I always fill the hair up with this before pulling it into the bun whenever I'm trying for a topknot appearance."Then, carry out the usual topknot procedures by pulling the hair into a ponytail, wrapping the ends around, and fastening them to the head.

Ciara

Ciara this look looks fantastic on hair with natural length or even fake ends. For this type of topknot, "hair extensions are ideal for adding volume and providing a flawless finish," says François. Use the $16 Vernon François Mist Nourishing Water to revitalize hair and get it ready for style.

Make a topknot out of your hair by twisting it, pinning it, and sweeping it up high. He suggests removing face-framing hairs with care and softly misting them with a little styling product.

Hailee Steinfeld

Heitkotter advises starting with a very high ponytail at the top of your head for a Hailee Steinfeld-inspired knot. Apply serum and Shu Uemura Essence Absolue ($69) while pushing the hair up. According to her, this mixture will give you the flexibility of an oil and gel grip.

After that, separate the ponytail into four halves and twist each one into a tiny bun. Apply the same gel/oil mixture along the length of the hair and secure with bobby pins as you twist the sections. Heitkotter advises twisting and securing the three bottom buns first, followed by the top bun.

To complete the effect, use a flexible-hold hair spray, such as Sebastian Shine Define ($19).

 Janelle Monae

Add some glitz to a simple topknot with cute embellishments. To make a topknot, proceed as usual by putting your hair up in a high ponytail and wrapping the ends around the base before tying them to your head. Add hair crystals all over the hairdo; for a bit of glitter, try Bitzy Stick on Clear Crystal Hair Gems ($4).

 Kendall Jenner

Using a top-notch cosmetics collection is the secret to pulling off this look."First, get ready by using a heat protector. Oribe Soft Laquer Heat Styling Spray ($36) is my fave, claims Heitkotter."Next, use the T3 Singlepass X ($235) to flatiron the hair.

Kendall Jenner's Hair should be parted down the center and pulled up high at the crown of the head. Heitkotter advises creating an undone texture by scraping through the sides of the hair before fastening."Twist the pony from the base to the middle of the shaft, creating a loop, and fasten with pins while exposing the ends.

For extra texture, use Ouai Finishing Crème ($24) to the ends.

 Jennifer Lopez

Vaccaro advises soaking hair at the roots and blow-drying from sources to mid-shaft with a soft-bristle brush to produce J.Lo's knot. Use a quarter-size of the $63 Oribe Gel Sérum to smooth your roots while pulling your hair back into a ponytail, he advises.

"When using an elastic to hold in place, avoid pulling the hair into the final loop. Divide the loop's tail into two identical parts. According to Vaccaro, the tail should then be tightly tied around the loop, with bobby pins used to secure and style the hair at the base.

Take your fingers and search your hairline for "airy, organic baby hairs" as the last step.

 Kirby Howell-Baptiste

This dramatic, stylish double-bun is a ballerina-inspired variation on the style. Make a medium-height ponytail with your hair and secure the base with an elastic. Take the ends and loop them once with the length left out and loose. Secure with pins.

Create a second bun on top of the first by taking the remaining hair and wrapping it more on top—set pins to secure.

Halle Berry

As a result of the asymmetrical bangs that surround Halle Berry's face, her topknot is both artistic and elegant—and just a little bit casual. Pull hair back into a ponytail and divide it into two portions of the same size. Each part should receive a drop of serum to keep the hair lustrous and smooth.

Take a section of hair in each hand and twist them together to form a single piece. At the base of the ponytail, take the twisted hair and wrap it around the elastic, pinning it in place as you go.

Paz Vega

Sleek, face-framing bangs are added to Paz Vega's topknot. Pull hair back into a high ponytail for this look, then fasten with an elastic. With your hair covering the elastic, wrap the ends of the ponytail around it and bobby pin it in place. Use a straightener to straighten bangs and loosen some hair around the face.
