It was no surprise when the 27-year-old turned to the red Jordans and red baseball cap after a thrilling five-set battle against Brandon Nakashima, clearly a far cry from the all-white tennis attire of Wimbledon. It had just been eight years since Kyrgios last reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals and he was playing some of the best tennis of his career as he pursues his first grand slam. Kyrgios's desire to wear red clothing was questioned by one reporter during his press conference. It was the Round of 16 matches in which he was most successful with a truly hilarious exchange that is characteristic of Kyrgios, he explained the reason for his decision and denied that he was upset about the negative publicity that surrounded him.

Kyrgios faces Cristian Garin in the final eight after Alex de Minaur was beaten by the Chilean star after winning the first two sets, preventing Australian fans from seeing our two top male players in action. He also discussed his journey since 2014, and how his career has been a rollercoaster ride.“Sitting here now in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon again, I just know that there are a lot of people who are very upset about it,” he said during his press conference.“I feel like I have been through so much in the past few years. My ability to stay composed has improved."When I stepped out here against one of the greatest players of all time and beat Nadal (in 2014), all of these thoughts were in the back of my mind as I came out here.

“I think I was able to get over the line today because Brandon had never played on this court before, so I think all these experiences I had led to my victory.“Today is probably the first time in my career where I haven't played well, regardless of the fact that I am playing at Centre Court Wimbledon, in front of a fully packed crowd, I am able to just say to myself 'wow, look how far I've come,'.“The level of his game didn’t drop, but the level of my five-set game is pretty good, and I was thinking about that because I have been there and done that before.“This is the only place where I haven't lost a five-setter.
