Lookout for Starbucks
In order to prevent a massive Game of Thrones blunder, the House of the Dragon showrunners acknowledges that they were constantly on the lookout for Starbucks cups on site. The popular HBO fantasy series, which ran for eight seasons from 2011 to 2019, has a prequel called House of the Dragon.
The New Series
The new series, based on George R.R. Martin's 2018 novel Fire & Blood, with its HBO debut on August 21, 2022, with a 10-episode season 1 is set two centuries before Game of Thrones, after a significant Targaryen civil war. Paddy Considine, Emma D'Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, and Matt Smith, a former Doctor Who actor, are among the cast members of the show.Add Block
Infamous mistake
Even though Game of Thrones had a massive staff and budget for every episode, it still had its fair share of mistakes. The Last of the Starks, episode 4 of season 8, had one of the most infamous flaws in the history of the program. A Starbucks cup may be seen on the table in front of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) in one moment, which was revealed online pretty much right away after the episode's debut. This sparked a wave of jokes and memes about how the contemporary beverage entered the fictional world of Westeros.
House of Dragon premiere
At the House of the Dragon premiere last week, THR had the chance to speak with co-showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik. They make fun of the Starbucks gaffe while noting that every show makes errors and that it only gained notoriety due to the success of Game of Thrones.Add Block
The Starbucks hunting
Sapochnik jokes that viewers can win a cup of coffee if they spot Starbucks cups that have been digitally painted out after Condal acknowledges they had "a very carefully policed set" with "plenty of Starbucks-hunting."Add Block
Memes
Despite the fact that the Starbucks cup from Game of Thrones actually belonged to Conleth Hill, who played Lord Varys, Daenerys still has a strong association with it in the public's mind because she sat directly in front of it. Because of this, it was arguably even more prudent for the team to be watchful of the incursion of contemporary items. The memes comparing Daenerys to her ancestors would be so numerous that it would be truly overwhelming. She was long thought to be the last of the Targaryen bloodline, and should another Starbucks cup appear in the new series.
A comparable gaffe in the upcoming series
would be interesting to watch how the audience would react, even if it is crucial for House of the Dragon to prevent huge gaffes like the Starbucks cup. The prequel has some distance to make up to win over such a devoted audience after the public's perception of Game of Thrones last season worsened. It would undoubtedly serve as a reliable litmus test to determine how well the new series is received in comparison to the first one.
