Ryan Gosling has revealed that Sylvester Stallone was his favorite action star when he was a teenager. Throughout his long career, Stallone has appeared in a wide array of action films, including Rocky and Rambo.
The 80s and 90s saw Stallone star in action movies such as Rambo II, Demolition Man, Cobra, Over The Top, Tango & Cash, and Cliffhanger. Having helped create the genre with The Expendables, which has two sequels already, and a fourth on the way, the prolific writer, director, and actor revived it with The Expendables in 2010.
Since his early career, Gosling has leaned more towards indie films, working on projects such as The Notebook, Half Nelson, Lars, and the Real Girl, Blue Valentine, and Crazy, Stupid Love.
He then moved on to more action-oriented films such as Blade Runner 2049, Gangster Squad, and The Nice Guys. The Gray Man, a $200 million action film on Netflix that was directed by the Russo Brothers, is his biggest step yet into the genre.
MTV News asked Gosling who was his favorite action star growing up, and he replied that it was none other than Sylvester Stallone. As a kid, the actor briefly described watching Jean-Claude Van Damme's Bloodsport but changed gears when he talked about Stallone, saying that he wasn't just a good actor, but also a great action star.
Despite his reminiscence, Gosling admits that he misses the glory days when Stallone was at the top of the box office charts.
As Stallone hit a slump in the early 2000s, Gosling is understandable in saying that he "misses those days." Fortunately, the actor has bounced back with a range of projects, including sequels to Rambo and the Rocky spinoff Creed.
As well as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol., the actor appeared in several other movies. The Suicide Squad, in which he voiced King Shark.

A new installment of The Expendables will be released in 2018, followed by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Taylor Sheridan's Tulsa King marks his first role on TV and his third Prime Video production.
Even though he created the character and starred in/directed multiple sequels to Rocky, the actor wants his rights back to the franchise, even though he has moved away from it.
There is always interest in hearing how actors were influenced early on, as it's frequently similar to how other fans were influenced. As early as the 1980s and 1990s, Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, and Jean-Claude Van Damme ruled over the box office.
Due to this, Gosling names dropping the actor without hesitation as his action guy of that era is quite amusing. There may be a Gosling/Stallone team-up down the road if Gosling jumps back into the genre with Netflix's The Gray Man.
