It may have been the turning point that led to Vicki Gunvalson's downfall during the long and iconic history of The Real Housewives of Orange County. Recent seasons of the show haven't been as well-received as previous seasons, though it has stood the test of time. Despite this, the show continues to attract franchise enthusiasts around the world. The show had one particularly memorable moment.

The Real Housewives of Orange County season 7 introduced audiences to Vicki Gunvalson's boyfriend Brooks Ayers. Vicki seemed to be in love with him, and even her best friend and fellow housewife Tamra Judge enjoyed his company at first. Vicki Gunvalson's fans were glad she was happy after her marriage with Donn Gunvalson ended, but soon cracks began to appear in her new relationship.

In Season 10, everything came to an end for the couple. The rumors began when Tamra's psychic told Tamra, Heather Dubrow, and Meghan O'Toole King that Brooks wasn't sick with cancer, and Brooks' credibility was questioned. The most cynical person about Brooks was Meghan because she also dealt with the cancer diagnosis of her husband's ex-wife during the same season.

When she tried to investigate Brooks' story, she saw many holes, such as the methods he used to treat him. In response to the women's inquiries, Vicki was defensive, assuring them there was no cause for concern. This was the turning point in Vicki's career as a housewife on RHOC, according to many fans.

In the end, Brooks finally revealed that he had forged medical records related to his diagnosis after Vicki tirelessly stood up for him and told the women to stop assuming the worst. RHOC cast members and viewers confirmed their suspicions. Vicki's behavior tarnished how the rest of the cast saw her and created a visible rift between them. At Shannon Storms Beador's Seventies-themed party in season 11, David Beador confronted Vicki about Brooks' cancer scam, among other moments.

There were several moments in Vicki's final seasons on The Real Housewives of Orange County that reflect negatively on her as a cast member. From season 13 on, Vicki was demoted to a "friend of" role and then left the show entirely from season 15. A lot of people feel that the iconic 'Cancer-Gate' situation, and all of its after-effects, was an early sign that Vicki had gotten too big for her boots. RHOC was her last reunion, and she stormed off the set, calling it "my show."
