Johnny Depp first post has been unveiled !
The first poster of Johnny Depp as the controversial King Louis XV in Jeanne du Barry has been disclosed. Depp is one of the most recognizable actors of his generation.
However, his name has recently been marred in controversy due to the highly-publicized defamation trial against his ex-wife, Heard. This June, a jury found that Heard defamed Depp in her 2018 Washington Post op-ed, which alluded to her being a victim of domestic abuse.
Shortly after the trial ended, Depp rejoined his acting again in the period drama Jeanne du Barry, which started shooting in France at the end of July. From French filmmaker Maiwenn, the film follows a young working-class woman and courtesan named Jeanne who uses her various charms to climb the social ladder, eventually landing on the radar of King Louis XV.

Besides Maiwenn in the title role and Depp as the controversial French monarch, Jeanne du Barry also stars Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Richard, Melvil Poupaud, Noemie Lvovsky, Pascal Greggory, and India Hair. With the film being Depp's first major role since the trial ended, many have been eagerly awaiting a glimpse at his return to acting.
The character is curiously wearing a black blindfold around his eyes, which could have something to do with the film's plot, or merely meant to symbolize the King's blindness to his corruption. The shooting for the production began last month in various locations in France, including Versailles and Paris.
The project will be the first feature film for the actor in three years and follows his defamation trial victory
The film will star Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Richard, Melvil Poupaud, Noemie Lvovsky, Pascal Greggory, and India Hair as additional cast members.
The project will be the first feature film for the actor in three years and follows his defamation trial victory against his ex-wife Amber Heard, in which the jury awarded him $15 million in damages. Heard will only have to pay $10.35 million due to the Virginia law cap on punitive damages; the judge reduced the amount.
Regarding Heard's countersuit brought against Depp, he was found to have defamed her on one of three claims. She was awarded $2 million in damages. Following the win, Depp said in a statement that the jury gave me my life back, and the best is yet to come for him.
