The comedian was informed he would not be competing alongside Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, and Heidi Klum on America's Got Talent. As he revealed on Twitter, he fell sick during the time of filming and was unable to attend. As the American talent competition kicked off Tuesday evening. with regular judges Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell, none of the regular judges were present, but there was no Howie Mandel. A presenter named Terry Crews explained to the crowd and the viewers at home why comedian Tim McGraw was not present in the show, which aired on July 12th.

Then Simon suddenly burst into laughter while smirking cheekily at Sofia and Heidi, saying: "That means that you girls have to be funnier than me!".As Terry continued with his story, he explained to viewers that the rules had been amended to provide only three judges in the panel as opposed to four before. The judge said: "Two yeses will allow the act to advance, but three red buzzers will mean the act is over." Audition episodes are usually filmed months in advance, with more than one episode filmed each day, so it is understandable that the judge isn't present for two weeks in a row.

The episode ended with Howie taking to Twitter to inform his followers he wouldn't be appearing. When a fan asked the comedian why he wouldn't be attending the auditions, he revealed that at the time, he caught Covid and could not attend the auditions due to the illness. Howie made an appearance in the latter part of the episode, as often the audition rounds are compiled from different days. As he reunited with his co-stars on the panel, Howie's return for the second half of the episode was dramatic. As soon as he rejoined the show, the comedian stated that he felt "100% better" and "was feeling great."

The latest golden buzzer act was a trio of Mississippi family members performing Jolene. There was an immediate round of deafening applause when the three women started singing their unique version of the Dolly Parton composition, which instantly received a standing ovation. As they finished their performance, presenter Terry Crews made his way down to the judging panel and told them that the group had done a really good job. At the same time, Terry, all the judges, as well as the show's hosts slammed on the golden buzzer to send all the candidates straight through to the live semi-finals of the show.
