Finding and Losing a Generation

Flashbacks to the events in the lighthouse, which were mentioned in episode 2, are seen while Caleb (Aaron Paul) fights the parasite invading his head. They gingerly bring up the topic of how their lives would be after the conflict as Maeleb gets ready to kill "the last of Rehoboam. The voice of Charlotte (Tessa Thompson), called Halores, bragging over making him and his people into her pets interrupts the flashback. "The mega spreader event of the century" is what the park is intended to be. Everyone who visits the park will turn into a carrier, taking both her parasites and their debauched memories with them.

Maeve learns that William (Ed Harris) has become a host while Halores is preoccupied with Caleb. She almost escapes after a struggle in which the Host in Black prevails, sending him on a pursuit through the basement. She entices him into the Project: Chrysalis control room, where she takes over the harmonic amplifier and cranks it up to 11, shattering the glass cells and sending Halores, HiB, and Caleb tumbling to the floor.Halores is taken hostage by Caleb and Maeve with a shard of broken glass once they regain their balance. Before it spreads further, they'll put a stop to it. I'm not entirely sure how much danger Halores is actually in at this moment. It would seem logical that the hosts would no longer be as susceptible to human kinds of death as they were as hosts in the park if she had updated them in other ways (such as resistance to Maeve's Wi-Fi telepathy).

In any case, they travel to Temperance and look for a route to the park's edge for extraction. She mocks Maeve, telling Maeve that if she hadn't been so "sentimental," she could have lived in peace. Caleb inquires as to what she is referring to, but the tone signals that the machine has been turned back on, cutting off their conversation.Caleb asks Maeve whether she'll leave him again while bleeding in the backseat. She assures him that she did not abandon him previously. She was forced to face his mortality while spending weeks by his bedside. She saw a vision of what life may be like for him in freedom as she observed Uwade (Nozipho McLean) taking care of him in the hospital. When they arrive at a demolition site, the Host in Black is there to greet them.

While Caleb transports Halores to a control room and makes contact with his crew, he and Maeve battle. Despite his efforts to fight the parasite, he is unable to stop him from shooting Maeve in the chest. He is able to defy Halores' order to kill Maeve. The extraction team enters the control room to the glare of lights streaming in through the windows. Caleb declares to Halores that he won't stop until everything she has constructed has been destroyed while still battling his injury.Speaking of the outside world, Christina (Evan Rachel Wood) had overslept after a night of frantic painting back in New York City. She is awakened by Maya (Ariana DeBose), who explains that she had problems falling asleep as well.Evan Rachel describes a horrifying dream in which she and her parents are engulfed in a swarm of insects at a family picnic. This is hardly a promising sign for Maeleb's mission, in my opinion.
