The Lumiere Festival, held in Lyon, France, in October, honors heritage movies and film masters with the 14th Lumiere Award.
Thierry Fremaux, head of Cannes' Lumiere Festival, has previously honored Jane Campion, Francis Ford Coppola, the Dardenne Brothers, Quentin Tarantino, Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese, Jane Fonda, Wong Kar-wai, Catherine Deneuve, Pedro Almodóvar, Ken Loach, Gérard Depardieu, and Milos Forman.
Tim Burton's first movies and early successes established his universe, fusing deeply personal expression with novelistic lyricism and pictorial references, traversing all of art history, said the Lumière Festival. Aside from gothic and baroque pieces, he delved into comedy, horror, romanticism, and melancholy pieces."

A Burton representative will be on hand in Lyon from October 20 to 23. There will be screenings of Burton's iconic movies as part of the tribute on Oct. 21, from "Beetlejuice" to "Edward Scissorhands," "Big Fish" and "Alice in Wonderland."
Irene Jacob, who succeeded the late French filmmaker Bertrand Tavernier last year, presided over the Lumière Institut, which began awarding the Lumière in 2009.
It features screenings of classic films and restored prints, as well as discoveries and masterclasses in Lyon, the birthplace of Lumière Cinematograph. Paolo Sorrentino, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Ted Sarandos, Valeria Golino, Joachim Trier, Rossy de Palma, and Melanie Laurent were all among those in attendance last year.
Additionally, the festival also offers a dedicated market where you can buy classic films from around the world.
