Why Was Treadstone Season 2 of the Jason Bourne TV Show Cancelled?

Introduction

Treadstone season 2 is no longer operating, following the cancellation of USA Network's Jason Bourne spinoff series after only one season. There are several major reasons for this rather shocking judgment, the most important of which are the show's ratings and the channel's overall shift toward a distinct project.

These two factors spelled a death knell

Treadstone died due to these two factors, which failed to translate the international espionage thrills of the Bourne franchise into an unaired episode.

Based on the Jason Bourne films

Treadstone season 1 is set in two different time periods, based on the Jason Bourne films (which are premised on the novels by author Robert Ludlum). A 1973 plot follows the character John Randolph Bentley (Jeremy Irvine), a CIA agent who was kidnapped by the KGB and subjected to a brainwashing curriculum that trained him to carry out killings and other missions for the Soviets.

In the current plot, a group of operatives who were turned into spies by the CIA's behavior modification program, Treadstone, begin to awaken.

Treadstone season 2 was canceled

Treadstone season 1 is made up of ten episodes and was published worldwide on Amazon Prime, which definitely helped the series reach a larger audience than its timetabled terrestrial coding. Unfortunately, its viewing figures were not considered strong enough to ensure the show's future. Here's why Treadstone season 2 was canceled and what the story might have been in the second installment.

The USA stated

Treadstone season 2 was canceled by USA Network, along with the channel's cancellation of the horror spinoff series The Purge. These announcements are part of the company's shift from preplanned coding to living and unscripted coding like WWE Raw.

In terms of scripted content, the United States of America stated that it would prioritize event series over long-running shows based on its viewership data, which the Network claims are compelling.

Treadstone's premiere episode

The premiere episode of Treadstone drew 645,000 viewers and 1.84 million through postponed watching by the following week. However, by the season finale, ratings had dropped to 371,000 live audiences, and Treadstone received mediocre reactions, both of which played a role in the USA's decision to abandon the display.

Treadstone season 1 concludes by combining its two main storylines

Treadstone season 1 concludes with an older Bentley faced by his erstwhile captor and lover, Petra Andropov (Gabrielle Scharnitzky), who wants his assistance in bringing down Treadstone. Treadstone's second season would have most likely preceded the 1970s storyline and revealed the origins of Treadstone, which was modeled after the infamous KGB pprogramCicada.

The Matt Damon-led franchise has enjoyed

Even though Treadstone season 2 was canceled, the Bourne franchise is far from over. In fact, there's always the chance that Jason Bourne 6 will be released on the big screen. The Matt Damon-led franchise has enjoyed considerable success in recent years, with The Bourne Ultimatum receiving three Academy Awards (despite Matt Damon's script issues).

Action franchises such as John Wick and The Matrix are gaining remake and relaunch care, with stars such as Keanu Reeves resuming their original roles after years away.

Paul Greengrass has stated

However, original director Paul Greengrass has stated that his duration with the franchise is over, and Damon has asserted that he only wants to work on Bourne projects directed by Greengrass.

Treadstone is a death sentence

While many believe that the withdrawal of Treadstone is the end of the Bourne franchise, it does not preclude Matt Damon from returning to make some other Bourne film (despite Jeremy Renner being the lead in the critically panned follow-up The Bourne Legacy) - but he may not want to.
