An American professional wrestler,was renowned for his long career, which lasted more than 50 years and had several brief retirements, and the innovative hardcore wrestling style he developed in the latter stages.
Early Life!
The wrestler was born in Hammond, Indiana, on June 30, 1944. He is the son of Dory Funk, a former professional wrestler and promoter, and Dorothy Funk. The family moved to Amarillo, Texas, when World War II ended, and Terry and his brother, Dory Jr., grew up in the professional wrestling industry there. On August 14, 1965, Funk married his wife Vicky Ann, and they had two daughters named Stacy and Brandee. The wrestler was advised to rest in 2016 after developing an inguinal hernia, but he still went to Tommy Dreamer's House of Hardcore. Sylvester Stallone and John Ayers are Terry's close buddies.
Career!
- In Amarillo, Texas 1965, Funk began his professional career by working for his father, Dory Funk's Western States Sports promotion.
- When Dory failed to attend a championship fight in 1975, Terry defeated Jack Brisco in Miami to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.
- He fought Jerry Lawler in the Continental Wrestling Association in 1981.
- In Japan, Terry and Dory, Jr. also became well-known. Terry's exaggerated demeanor, occasionally eye-catching attire, and brawling prowess helped him establish himself as a celebrity in the eyes of Japanese fans.
- After a brief stint in the AWA, Terry Funk made his World Wrestling Federation (WWF) debut in June 1985.
- The WWF lost Funk in April 1986.
- In 1989, Funk joined World Championship Wrestling and the J-Tex Corporation. He started a conflict with Ric Flair, who had won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleWar by defeating Ricky Steamboat.
- Funk began competing in the nascent International Wrestling Association of Japan promotion in 1994. Funk later competed in the King of the Death Match Tournament, the most well-known IWA competition, which took place on August 20, 1995, in Kawasaki.
- In 2000 and 2001, Funk competed for WCW, capturing the WCW Hardcore Championship three times (a record for the organization) and the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship twice.
- Funk was a dependable top performer for Ring of Honor and Major League Wrestling from 2002 until 2004.
- From January 28 to 30, 2011, Funk appeared at the sixth WrestleReunion event at the LAX Hilton in Los Angeles, California.
- At a six-man tag team main event on December 11, 2014, Funk, Masakatsu Funaki, and Mil Máscaras defeated Kaz Hayashi, Nosawa Rongai, and Yoshiaki Fujiwara at a Tokyo Gurentai independent event.
