Meghan Markle’s Mental Health

Meghan Markle's partner, Prince Harry, and mother, Doria Ragland, are opening up about the height of the Duchess of Sussex's struggles inside the royal family.

She remembers telling me that she wanted to take her own life, Doria Ragland said in Episode 4 of the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, released Thursday. That broke her heart.

Doria Ragland then opened up about Meghan Markle's mental health problems to her treatment at the hands of the global media.

Doria Ragland added that she knew it was bad to be picked up by these vultures, picking away at her spirit that she would think of not wanting and added. She can't protect her. Prince Harry can't protect her.

He was devastated, added Prince Harry. He knew that she was struggling. They were both struggling, but he never thought it would get to that stage.

And because it got to that stage, he felt angry and ashamed, he continued. He didn't deal with it particularly well. He dealt with it as 'institutional Harry' instead of 'husband Harry.' And what took over his feelings was his royal role.

He added that he had been trained to worry more about what people think; they would be late if we didn't attend this event. Looking back on it now, he hates himself for it. What Meghan needed from him was much more than he could give."

The Suicidal Thoughts

Meghan first opened up about her suicidal thoughts during the couple's sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, where she also admitted to thoughts of self-harm.

She was ashamed to say it at the time and ashamed to admit it to Harry. But she knew that if she didn't say it, then she would do it, she said about her dark thoughts. She just didn't want to be alive anymore.

The Oprah Interview

She wanted to go somewhere to give help, but she wasn't allowed to, said Meghan Markle. They knew how bad it was, added Prince Harry about the royal family's response. They thought, why couldn't she just deal with it as if to say everybody else has dealt with it? This was different.

He continued, But, if you strip all that away and say, OK, fine, it was the same. So do they still believe she should have sucked it up like other family members? Or does one think that it's about time that they stop?
