Maya Hawke is standing up against the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade by sharing that her mother Uma Thurman's right to a legal and safe abortion is the reason she exists.Thurman, whose father is actor Ethan Hawke, appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday to discuss the ruling and expand on the abortion story he shared in an essay last year."I called my mom for advice about coming in to talk to you today," the actress told Fallon. The luxury is a big one for her. "We discussed the Supreme Court decision and this essay my mother wrote a couple months ago, when they were putting further restrictions on abortion access, sort of preceding all of this."Her mother's ability to get the procedure impacted her life for the better, and she herself would not exist without it."

The girl would not have become the person that she has become, and I wouldn't exist if she didn't have it." she continued. My parents' lives would have been derailed if she had not had access to safe and legal healthcare - fundamental healthcare."After this, the 23-year-old condemned the latest development in women's rights, emphasizing how dangerous this new ruling is going to be. "People who are wealthy will always have access to abortions, but so many people will not only not be able to pursue their dreams, but also lose their lives and be in danger."Hawke ended on a hopeful note, rallying others to fight like previous generations."F--- the Supreme Court, I just said. But we're going to keep fighting, and we'll beat them, like our grandmothers did." Last September, Thurman wrote about her experience receiving an abortion in an essay for The Washington Post, in which she discussed being pregnant by a much older man. In response to Texas enacting a law that banned abortions after detection of fetal cardiac activity, the piece was written.

In my late teens, I accidentally became pregnant by an older man," Thurman wrote in "Uma Thurman: The Texas abortion law is a human rights crisis for American women".The story has so much pain," she added, expressing the shame she was made to feel over the decision. "This decision has been my darkest secret until now. I am 51 years old, and I am sharing it with you from the home where my three children live, who are my pride and joy." She concluded her essay by saying: "To all of you – to women and girls of Texas who fear being hounded, traumatized and raped by bounty hunters; and to all women and girls whose bodies are abused by the state because of their uterus – I say: Have courage. You are beautiful. You remind me of my daughters.".." The Thurman family also includes Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke, and Luna Thurman-Busson.

Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court on Friday, ending federal protections that protected abortion rights since 1973. A majority of state abortion laws could be banned as a result of the decision, the Associated Press reports. The shocking decision has led to outrage from a wide range of Hollywood stars, including Taylor Swift, Barack and Michelle Obama, Bette Midler, Patricia Arquette, and Elizabeth Banks. Joe Biden called the decision a "sad day for the court and for the country" after it was announced at the White House, according to the AP. According to him, we need to elect more state leaders to protect this right at the local level. Roe should be reinstated as the law of the land.
