For Variety's "Actors on Actors" series, Jennifer Lawrence appeared alongside Viola Davis and discussed the one question everyone had when learning of her casting for "The Hunger Games": "How much weight are you going to lose?" Lawrence was still a relative unknown when she was chosen to play Katniss Everdeen, despite receiving an Oscar nomination for "Winter's Bone." Lawrence would become a world-famous celebrity because of "The Hunger Games."

The role in "Hunger Games" was "an awesome responsibility," according to Lawrence. I was aware that the target audience for those massive volumes was youngsters. How much weight are you going to lose? was the greatest topic of conversation, as I recall. I don't know whether I want all the ladies who will dress up as Katniss to feel like they can't because they're not a specific weight, in addition to the fact that I'm young and growing and cannot be on a diet. And I can't allow that to enter my mind either.

For Lawrence, "The Hunger Games" represented the once-in-a-lifetime chance to direct an action film with a female action heroine as the main character. With "The Woman King," Viola Davis received a comparable chance a great many years later.

As Lawrence recalled, "I remember when I was doing 'Hunger Games,' nobody had ever put a woman in the lead of an action movie because it wouldn't work - because we were told that boys cannot identify with a female lead, whereas both girls and boys can identify with a male lead." And it just makes me so pleased every single time I see a movie come out that just breaks through every one of those preconceptions, and exposes that it is simply fiction to keep some people out of the cinema. to maintain the positions that particular individuals have held for a long time.
