Kate Winslet criticizes the tabloid harassment she endured at the beginning of her career.

The 47-year-old Academy Award winner spoke up on the Happy Sad Confused podcast in advance of the film's 25th anniversary about her role in the 1997 James Cameron blockbuster Titanic, including the "terrible" body-shaming she endured from the public and media.

Winslet responded to some of the more snide justifications for why Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio), who was about to die, couldn't fit on that door by saying, "Apparently, I was too big." "Isn't it terrible? Why did they treat me so badly? They had such malice. I was in no way obese."

"I would have used my voice in an entirely different way if I could go back in time. I would have yelled at the reporters in answer to their inquiries, "Don't you dare disrespect me like that." Please don't make this more challenging than it already is. Being a young woman learning about how my body changes, I'm terrified. That is borderline aggressive, in my opinion, and it's bullying."

She has already spoken out about the "straight-up brutal" treatment she received from tabloids. In February of last year, she told The Guardian, "I was still finding out who the hell I bloody well was!"

They would comment on my size, guess at how much I weighed, and publicise the false diet I was doing, Winslet said. Reading that made me feel horrified, critical, and very disturbed.

Winslet described how she had been "bullied" by British media the previous month on the “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast. She claimed that after the release of Titanic, it "was like night and day from one day to the next."

She continued, "I simply remember thinking, "Yeah, yeah, this is terrible, and I hope it passes. It did pass, but it also made me realise that, if this was what it meant, I wasn't ready for celebrity. No, without a doubt.

Winslet also discussed whether Jack could have fit on the door with Rose after Titanic and finally saved himself from an icy tomb during her visit to Happy Sad Confused.

"Don't you just have to make a comedy out of it? I f—ing don't know. The response is that I have no idea "Before deciding on the solution, she said.

To be completely honest, one of us would not have survived if we had both climbed upon that door. He could have fit, but it would have tipped, and it would not have been a good idea.

"You've never heard it before, then. Although he could have fit on that door, it would not have remained in place. Certainly not, "Winslet threw in.
