Katharine McPhee and David Foster are a power couple in the music industry who met in 2006 when Foster mentored McPhee on American Idol and then they started dating in 2017 and got married in 2019. They welcomed their first child together in Feb 2021 who was a son with name Rennie and they have been touring Asia from July 2021 and performing songs from their albums and duets.

Tragedy: Nanny’s Sudden Demise

McPhee and Foster received the shocking news on 10 Aug 2021 that their son’s nanny Maria had passed away suddenly. Maria was a close friend of McPhee’s family and had been taking care of Rennie whenever the couple go to perform on tours but later she was found dead in her hotel room in Singapore by another staff member and the cause of death is still unknown.

McPhee and Foster were devastated by the loss of Maria who they considered as part of their family and they immediately decided to cancel the rest of their tour and fly back to Los Angeles to be with their son. A source close to the couple told People magazine that they are heartbroken and in disbelief over the death of Maria and much worried about how Rennie will cope without his nanny who he loved a lot.

McPhee and Foster have received an outpouring of love and prayers from their fans, friends, and family when she shared a tribute to Maria on her Instagram account by posting a photo of her holding Rennie with Maria smiling behind them. She wrote that “We lost our beloved Maria today who was our nanny for Rennie since he was born. She was so much more than that though. She was a part of our family and we will miss her terribly.”

Many celebrities commented on her post expressing their condolences and support in which Nicole Scherzinger wrote: “Oh my gosh I’m so sorry sweetie. Sending you so much love and prayers.” Linda Thompson who was the previous wife of Foster commented that “Oh Katharine…I am so very sorry for your profound loss…Maria was clearly a beautiful soul & will be missed by all who knew & loved her” and many other stars also sent their messages which include Sara Bareilles, Lea Michele, Jenna Dewan and Meghan Trainor.

Conclusion

McPhee and Foster are trying to stay strong for their son and each other in this difficult time and they are grateful for having Rennie in their lives and for the memories they shared with Maria. They plan to resume their tour in the future but for now they are focusing on healing and honoring Maria’s memory and also thanked their fans for their understanding and compassion.
