After Elon Musk acquired the platform in October, Twitter underwent several changes. Since then, Elon Musk and his company have been reversing the Twitter Ban on Donald Trump, which they effectively did on Saturday.

Former American President Donald Trump has been banned from Twitter for more than 22 months, ever since a pro-Trump crowd invaded the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, just as Congress was about to confirm President Biden's win. Elon Musk restored Trump's account on Twitter on Saturday, overturning the prohibition.

Elon Musk held a poll to reverse the ban and urged Twitter users to select yes or no as to whether Trump's feed should be restored, for which most of the users, 51.8%, clicked yes.

After the poll, Elon Musk tweeted,

"The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated. Vox Populi, Vox Dei,"

Vox Populi, Vox Dei is a Latin phrase meaning "the voice of the people, the voice of God."

Twitter account restored

After Elon Musk's tweet, Donald Trump's account was restored, which had earlier looked to be suspended, along with all of his previous tweets—more than 59,000 of them. His supporters first disappeared, but they seemed to have returned by Sunday morning when they exceeded 72 million.

Even after the account was restored, Donald Trump wasn't seen and was nowhere to be heard from Saturday night. Four days after Donald Trump declared his 2024 presidential bid, this choice was made.

Elon Musk's intention to bring back Donald Trump to the platform was ever since his plan right before acquiring Twitter.

Musk announced in late October that he would create a "content moderation committee with broadly different opinions" after acquiring Twitter for $44 billion. He added that no one whose account had been suspended would be reactivated until that group had the opportunity to convene.

There was no proof that such a council had been established, but Trump's account was restored without the council's help. Over fifteen million people voted in the poll, which was published on Musk's personal Twitter account, over its 24-hour running time.

After this move, NAACP President Derrick Johnson, in his statement, said,

"any advertiser still funding Twitter should immediately pause all advertising. If Elon Musk continues to run Twitter like this, using garbage polls that do not represent the American people and the needs of our democracy, God help us all."

After Elon Musk acquired Twitter, several well-known firms stopped advertising on Twitter, and that includes,

  • General Mills
  • Eli Lilly
  • General Motors
  • Audi

Elon Musk not only restored the banned account of Donald Trump but also other accounts of

  • Comedian Katy Griffin
  • Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson
  • Christian news satire website Babylon Bee

Will Donald Trump be back On Twitter?

Donald Trump, right before his ban, stated that Even if his account was reopened, Trump had already declared that he would not return to Twitter. He has been depending on Truth Social, a far more modest social media platform that he started after being banned from Twitter.

Trump's inaccessibility on other platforms

After the January 6, 2021 incident, Trump was banned from other social media platforms, including Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram, all owned by Meta Platforms. Additionally, he was also suspended from uploading videos to his YouTube page. In January, Facebook plans to take Trump's account ban under review.

With the mass exodus of employees and executives leaving Twitter, we hope Elon Musk's new empire Twitter doesn't crash and fall as debris.
