TikTok is an easy way for old songs to become widely known, often and unexpectedly. In most cases, all it takes is a viral phenomenon or the development of a shortened version that garners more attention than the original. Then it becomes a game of seizing the opportunity.

Over the past 18 months, The Weeknd's 2016 song "Die For You" has seen a remarkable revival. He first used an unreleased video to boost the popularity of Starboy's recent success to commemorate the song's fifth anniversary. A remix starring Ariana Grande now bridges the gap between 2016 and 2022.

There is a need to make this exception

With The Weeknd's vocals, Grande adds a new verse to the chorus about a minute into the remix. It is hard around you, darling boy/And yes, I am blaming you," Grande sings in the remix addition. Despite my best efforts, it's hard around you, darling boy," she said.

The TikTok teaser, in which Grande was shown sitting in front of an open Pro Tools session after spending 14 hours on set, said that Grande wrote a verse for her friend, "You said we might be better now or never"; she then said she couldn't fake it. It was necessary to make this certain exception.

Contributed to four official projects

It is now filming for the Wicked movie adaptation, in which The Weeknd plays Glinda. The Weeknd and Grande have collaborated on four official projects, establishing them as a music power couple. Rather than spotlighting her more obvious vocal performance skills, The Weeknd has lauded her skillset. He also credits her for inspiring his creative connection with pop legend Max Martin.

After commenting on Twitter about female producers, the Weeknd wrote, "I've seen Ariana work in real-time." "She is a BEAST on Pro Tools." Over ten years after their debut collaboration, 2014's "Love Me Harder," the Weeknd and Grande continue to add deep cuts, remixes, and songs to their shared archive.

Live performance by a couple

In October 2020, The Weeknd appeared on the Zach Sang Show for a moment, and he described the writing process between two friends as "an intimate moment". As soon as Grande appeared on the After Hours remix "Save Your Tears" in April 2021, The Weeknd asked Grande to improve it even more.

When the song was released later that year, the couple performed it live at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. Despite not performing for her singles, including "Positions" and "34 + 35," Grande made it a point to attend the concert for her partner.
