Reality Tv shows are known for having their own personal touches and American Idol is one such show which has its own particular rules and regulations along with a few privileges for its winners. During all the American Idol finals, a winner’s single is released. Despite trying hard to pursue the producers of the show, the singer ended up recording the song as his winner’s single but stated that it sounded almost the same as a 2012 song that someone from the South African version of the series had released.

The finale

During the finale of the American Idol, the three singers who are left sing before the viewers live and the audience gets a chance to vote for a winner. One of the songs performed becomes the winner’s single. The winner’s single is a tune that is written for the finalists and if the singer wins the competition, the song is released as their first single. During a recent chat, the American Idol season 13 winner Caleb Johnson, revealed the reason why he believes his winner's single is horrible.

As long as you love me

After Caleb Johnson was crowned the winner of American Idol season 13 on May 21, 2014, his single "As Long As You Love Me," was released. However, his fans and the show lovers did not know that the singer himself did not like his own first single. He went as far as to criticize the single, as he feels that it's cheesy and worse than mediocre.

The argument

According to a media source, Caleb Johnson actually argued with the producers of the show as he wanted them to change the tune. He revealed that he was uncomfortable because he knew that he would have to sing the song on the final AI episode and record it. He also stated that if he won the show he would have to sing the song and the song was just utter crap according to him moreover, he added that the song was the worst ever.

A flop….maybe

Usually, the winner’s singles which are released after the final winner declaration of the show prove to be a major success for the Idol winners. However, Caleb Johnson's song did not gain him as much success as other singles such as Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This" or Phillip Phillips' "Home."

Own music

But post he won the show, he released his own music later after the release of the winner’s single. His most recent album, Mountain Mojo Vol. 1, was released on June 18, 2021. The singer and winner have not released any songs or albums till then but something could potentially be in the works for the rock singer, as he hasn't announced a hiatus or retirement from music.

Regrets

Despite winning the show, it seems like the American Idol season 13 winner has some regrets about his winner’s single. The single release didn't seem like his vibe, and with a different song, he felt like he could have shown more. Nonetheless, he did not let the hurdles stop him from achieving his dreams.

It's all open

The auditions for the next American Idol season are now completely open, and if the viewers want to give a kickstart to their music careers they should definitely go ahead and audition for the show. Because trying is better than having regrets and one never knows what might happen if they go for it.
