Bridgerton's Regé-Jean Page Explains His 'Horrendous Coffee Breath

The steamy Netflix series Bridgerton's Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor weren't exactly popping mints before their kissing scenes, according to Page. In a late-night interview with Stephen Colbert, Bridgerton said, "What few know about Bridgerton is that Phoebe and I had horrendous coffee breath the entire time."

The two actors negotiated behind the scenes: "You approached your other actor and asked, 'Hey, what about the scenes after lunch?' No onions, no garlic? Is it okay for me to arrive early to pick up a cup of coffee?'" For the rest of the Netflix season, the actor said it became their "coffee safe space," as Page told Colbert: "We both don't mind diluting the coffee taste."

Page and Dynevor discussed the kissing scenes from Bridgerton graciously earlier. In January 2021, she told Glamour, "He smells really nice. He never ever has bad breath and doesn't smoke." A year later, she confessed, "We usually both smell like that because of coffee."

The success of Bridgerton, Page's character in Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, was "something very special" for Colbert when they spoke Tuesday. Bridgerton made the community so popular during the COVID lockdowns because it provided communal escapism.

A photo of Page on horseback as the Duke of Hastings was shared on Instagram after Page announced his departure from Bridgerton after the first season. In his letter, he described the experience as a "ride of a lifetime." Having the chance to join your family on-screen and off-screen has been an absolute pleasure.
