Alina Kozhevnikova Was Fired

Alina Kozhevnikova was memorably fired from the 90 Day Fiancé franchise after some controversy cut her time on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days short, and the Russian singer discussed her past racist posts and how she reacted to being fired in her first sit-down interview since her time on TLC.

Alina appeared alongside American Caleb Greenwood and became an early fan favorite, only to see her popularity sharply plummet when fans uncovered old racist and insensitive posts she had made in the past decade.

While many viewers were furious with Alina over the images, the singer revealed that she didn't understand why 90 Day Fiancé fans and her fellow cast members turned on her

Date With Digital Friend Caleb

Alina joined the cast of Before the 90 Days season 5 to pursue a relationship with her long-time digital friend Caleb and to show that people with Diastrophic Dysplasia can date just like anyone else.

While Caleb knew Alina was a little person, he wasn't prepared for the challenges of dating her. Caleb decided they were better off as friends.

He later helped Alina off-screen by purchasing tickets for her and her best friend Elijah to flee Russia after they spoke out against the government and could not buy tickets with their Russian credit cards.

Before Alina was applauded for speaking out against Russia during the ongoing war, fans slammed her with posts that saw her using the N-word multiple times and making insensitive remarks about other cultures and races.

The Sarah Fraser Show

Alina opened up on The Sarah Fraser Show podcast to discuss being fired from the 90 Day Fiancé franchise in her first sit-down interview since it happened. Though she is now living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and is video editing, working on her music, and dating, Alina talked about receiving the shocking news that TLC had fired her.

She explained that she had no idea that what she said was offensive at the time, as it wasn't considered offensive in Russia due to the drastically different culture. Alina said she wished someone would have told her not to post the N-word because she never wanted to offend people.

"When I faced discrimination for the first time in my life, I was still in middle school...for me, it was mind-blowing," she said of her own experience being discriminated against. Alina emphasized that she felt terrible about her posts and how they negatively affected people.

She Tried A Lot

Not only did Alina receive backlash from fans, but she revealed that almost the entire cast of Before the 90 Days season 5 unfollowed her as soon as she was fired.

Though she tried to explain her side of the story, Alina stated that no one responded to her messages after she reached out and directly asked her fellow cast members why they were no longer speaking to her. However, she does keep in touch with Ben Rathbun's friend Jessica Siciliano

"I really like her. I think she is great," Alina said. While losing friendships was disappointing for Alina, she has moved on with her life and is now dating again since her heartbreak with Caleb.

While Caleb has moved on to 90 Day Diaries and revealed he is seeing someone new, Alina is looking for love in Buenos Aires. Alina is very confident about her romantic life and even had an anonymous blog about her sex life.

Alina's Aim

Viewers might have panned Alina, but she has continued to use her 90 Day Fiancé franchise platform to discuss dwarfism. She enjoys connecting to others and helping people feel confident in their skin.

She clarified that she is not interested in men fetishizing her and her medical condition. One of her aims has always been to prove to franchise fans and followers that people with dwarfism can date just the same as everyone else and shouldn't be viewed any differently in a romantic context.

Though many franchise fans slammed Alina, she asked people who are on the fence about her to give her a chance since there are two sides to every story. Alina seeks not to be defined by her time in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise, as she has learned from the experience considerably and matured.
