George Lopez is the son of Frieda and Anastasio Lopez, a migrant worker. He was deserted by his father at two months old and his mother when he was ten years old. He grew up with his grandmother and step-grandfather until she passed away. In 1979, he graduated from San Fernando high school. Benita Gutierrez is a factory worker and a maternal grandmother of George Lopez, whereas Refugio Gutierrez is a construction worker and a step-grandfather of George Lopez. Benita gave him the Mestizo Mexican Heritage that would define his future career.

Career

After several years of performing as a stand-up comedian, Lopez was approached by actress Sandra Bullock to produce and star in a comedy in 2000.

In 2002, Lopez becomes one of the few Latinos to star in a television comedy series in the footsteps of Desi Arnaz, Freddie Prinze and John Leguizamo.

From 2002 to 2007, George Lopez was an American situation comedy aired on ABC.
