The 2009 movie which told the true story of the football player, Michael Oher, and the blind side made Michael Oher be the only Super Bowl champion to be more famous for being a character in a movie than being a Super Bowl–winning football player. It was so closure remembered that it was starring by a blockbuster success, Sandra Bullock, who won an Oscar for her performance in the Best Picture–nominated film.

Was Born In Low Condition

Michael Oher was born in the United States in 1986, amid the crack cocaine epidemic that swept the United States’ inner cities. He was one of 12 children born to a parent that his father disappeared early on, while his mother struggled with addiction for many years.

Because of his parents' condition, Michael Oher grew up with little adult supervision. He barely made it to school because he repeated both first and second grades and attended nine different schools over the course of 11 years. His family and him live moving city by city, but they had been in a housing project called Hurt Village, where he lived from age 11 until Michael Oher began high school.

A Chance To A Prestigious School

When Michael Oher was 15, a local athletic program director, Tony Henderson, took Michael Oher to live with him because he had an extra room in his house. When Tony Henderson took his son, Steven, to the local prestigious private school, Briarcrest Christian School, he also took Michael Oher along for the ride anyway.

Michael Oher was so quiet and Briarcrest’s admissions team couldn’t really find a reason to admit him, especially to offer him a scholarship. He barely spoke during interviews, his reading comprehension level was closer to elementary school and tests showed he had a barely cracked 80 IQ. But, the Briarcrest football coach was still interested in him. The principal, Steve Simpson, felt empathy and gave him a challenge: If he could get his grades up in another school, he could enter Briarcrest in the next semester.

Tuohys Provided Stability and Family

Leigh Anne Tuohy, played by Sandra Bullock in the movie, is the matriarch of the family and wife of Sean Tuohy, played by Tim McGraw, a former college basketball star and wealthy fast food entrepreneur. Suddenly, on Thanksgiving weekend, the family met with Michael Oher, who was walking alone in the rain, wearing his only pair of shorts and going nowhere in particular, and took him to live with their family. After some early awkwardness, Michael Oher became a full-fledged member of the Tuohy family and lived a stable life until he entered college and had a football career.

The Story Was Documented

Michael Oher was the subject of a famous author Michael Lewis’ 2006 book, The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game, and its film adaptation, The Blind Side, before Michael Oher spent eight years in the NFL. The Blind Side was written and directed by John Lee Hancock, and told about Michael Oher’s journey from homeless teenager to Division I All-American left tackle for Ole Miss.

But, according to a court petition filed Monday, although a smash hit that made over $300 million at the box office, Michael Oher says he didn’t earn any money from the film, The Blind Side, even the movie took some liberties with the particulars of his life story and the family story who took him in when he was a teenager has profited.

Conclusion

The way of The Blind Side stacks up to the real story it was by Michael Oher has told about the movie over the years, and the legal turmoil brewing more than a decade after its release. That impactful story made The Blind Side a very successful movie.
